Casio is leaning hard into Y2K nostalgia with a fresh, translucent take on one of its boldest recent designs. The new G-Shock GA-V01SKE series has officially launched in the United States, bringing “skeleton” styling to the oversized, sci-fi-inspired GA-V01 watch that turned heads with its alien-like look.
Originally released in Japan in early March, the translucent GA-V01SKE lineup is now available through Casio’s US store in four colors: neon green (GA-V01SKE-3A), black (GA-V01SKE-8A), orange (GA-V01SKE-4A), and purple (GA-V01SKE-6A). Each model is priced at $155, though the purple version appears to be sold out at the time of writing.
While the see-through resin exterior gives the watch a playful, early-2000s vibe, the core design remains unmistakably GA-V01. The dial keeps its signature inverted LCD display that resembles a pair of “alien eyes,” along with chunky, three-dimensional hour markers that sit prominently above the crystal. Those raised markers aren’t just for looks, either—they also function as shock-absorbing bumpers, reinforcing the watch’s rugged personality.
This is still a seriously large G-Shock, measuring 58.2mm wide and 19.6mm thick, and Casio isn’t pretending it’s subtle. To help protect the inner module, the GA-V01SKE models use an integrated bezel-and-band construction designed to hold everything securely in place. Casio also includes its “Shock Release Hand” technology, a clever approach that uses magnetic force to attach the analog hands to the main shaft. If the watch takes a hard hit, the hands can shift to reduce impact stress, then quickly snap back into alignment afterward.
Beyond the futuristic styling and translucent casing, the GA-V01SKE series delivers the everyday durability and features people expect from G-Shock. You get a 10-year battery life, shock resistance, 200-meter water resistance, World Time across 48 cities, a stopwatch, countdown timer, five daily alarms, and Auto Dual LED lighting for visibility in low light.
