Casio has officially pulled back the curtain on its new G-Shock Red Lantern series, confirming months of early buzz around these Japan-inspired digital watches. The lineup includes two fan-favorite silhouettes—the square DW-5600AKA-4 and the round DW-6900AKA-4—both now available for pre-order in Japan ahead of an expected late-April 2026 release.
Pricing is set at ¥22,000 (around $139) per model, putting the Red Lantern editions in a sweet spot for collectors and everyday wearers who want a bold G-Shock with a story behind the design.
A Japan-inspired “Akachochin” look in classic G-Shock form
What makes the Red Lantern series stand out is its visual tribute to Akachochin—traditional red paper lantern decorations commonly seen outside bars and small eateries across Japan. Casio leans hard into that theme with vivid red resin cases and matching straps for both watches, creating a striking, uniform colorway that’s instantly recognizable on the wrist.
To balance the bright red finish, Casio adds sharp black accents, including buttons and band loops. One of the most distinctive touches is the use of Japanese characters spelling out “shock resistant,” reinforcing the watch’s rugged identity while tying neatly into the cultural inspiration. Even the LED backlight follows the theme, giving the digital display a red-tinted glow when illuminated.
DW-5600AKA-4 vs DW-6900AKA-4: two iconic shapes, one bold concept
Shoppers can choose between two classic G-Shock designs:
The DW-5600AKA-4 keeps the brand’s signature rectangular case and straightforward digital layout—simple, tough, and timeless.
The DW-6900AKA-4 offers a rounder case and the recognizable triple-circle graphics above a slimmer digital display, delivering a sportier, more graphic-heavy look that many G-Shock fans love.
Despite the different shapes, the core feature set remains familiar and practical. Both models include a 1/100th-second stopwatch, a timer, and an alarm. And, true to the G-Shock reputation, they also come with 200-meter water resistance—making them more than just a design piece.
Will the Red Lantern G-Shock watches launch outside Japan?
For now, Casio has only confirmed pre-orders and an April 2026 release window for Japan, with no official word on international availability. That said, Casio has previously brought Japan-themed G-Shock releases to other regions, so collectors outside Japan may want to keep an eye out for updates as the release date approaches.
With their vivid lantern-red colorway, Japanese text details, and proven G-Shock durability, the DW-5600AKA-4 and DW-6900AKA-4 look poised to become standout picks for anyone searching for a limited-feel G-Shock, a Japan-inspired watch design, or a fresh twist on two of the brand’s most iconic digital models.
