Casio Brings Two Bold G-Shock Square Watches With MIP Displays and Multiband 6 to the US

Casio G-Shock GW-BX5600 Arrives in the US With a Crisp MIP Display and Classic Square Design

Casio has finally introduced the G-Shock GW-BX5600 series in the United States, giving fans of the iconic square 5600 lineup a major display upgrade without abandoning the rugged design that made the series famous. The new Casio G-Shock GW-BX5600-1 and GW-BX5600-1A1 are now available in the US, priced at $180 each.

The biggest highlight is the addition of a high-contrast Memory-in-Pixel LCD, commonly known as an MIP display. This is a welcome improvement for anyone who loves the classic G-Shock square shape but wants better readability, sharper contrast, and a more modern screen experience.

The two new models share nearly identical features, but they differ in display style. The GW-BX5600-1 comes with a positive display, offering dark characters on a lighter background for a traditional digital-watch look. The GW-BX5600-1A1 uses a negative display, showing light characters on a dark background for a sleeker, more modern appearance.

What makes the MIP display especially appealing is its ability to deliver clearer text and better visibility in bright outdoor conditions. Traditional negative LCD displays can sometimes be difficult to read, especially at certain angles or under harsh light. The MIP panel helps solve that problem by storing information at the pixel level, allowing the screen to stay crisp while using very little power.

Casio also gives users some customization options. The GW-BX5600 models include two display styles, including a Classic mode that recreates the familiar 7-segment digital look found on older G-Shock squares. There are also four timekeeping layouts that can be changed directly from the watch, giving owners more flexibility in how information appears on the screen.

Aside from the improved display, Casio has kept the rugged G-Shock formula intact. Both watches feature a shock-resistant resin case, 200-meter water resistance, mineral glass, and a bio-based resin band. The dimensions are 49.1 × 44.1 × 13.4 mm, and each model weighs 51 grams, keeping the watches lightweight enough for everyday wear while still feeling tough and durable.

The GW-BX5600 series also includes Tough Solar charging, which allows the watch to recharge using sunlight or indoor light. Battery life is rated at up to 6 months without additional light exposure and up to 22 months when power saving is enabled.

Timekeeping is another strong point. The watches support Multiband 6 radio-controlled time adjustment, helping maintain accurate time in supported regions. Bluetooth connectivity is also included, allowing the watch to pair with a smartphone through Casio’s companion app. Once connected, users can access automatic time adjustment, world time settings, watch configuration, Time & Place logging, and a phone finder feature.

For everyday utility, the Casio G-Shock GW-BX5600-1 and GW-BX5600-1A1 include world time for 55 cities across 38 time zones, UTC support, a 1/100-second stopwatch, a 24-hour countdown timer, five daily alarms, one snooze alarm, and a full-auto LED backlight.

The arrival of the GW-BX5600 series in the US is a big moment for G-Shock fans who have been waiting for a square model with a more readable and modern display. By combining the familiar 5600 design with Tough Solar, Multiband 6, Bluetooth, and a sharp MIP LCD, Casio has created a practical upgrade that stays true to the spirit of the original G-Shock square.

At $180, the GW-BX5600-1 and GW-BX5600-1A1 offer a strong mix of durability, visibility, battery efficiency, and smart connectivity. For anyone searching for a modern Casio G-Shock square with better screen clarity and classic rugged appeal, these new models are likely to stand out.
