Casio Unveils GBX-H5600KI-5 Collaboration Watch With Heart-Rate Tracking and Crisp MIP Display

Casio GBX-H5600KI-5 debuts as a feature-packed G-Shock surf watch with heart rate tracking

Casio has introduced the GBX-H5600KI-5, a new G-Shock collaboration with professional surfer Kanoa Igarashi. This latest model marks the fourth signature G-Shock created with Igarashi and brings a major upgrade over earlier surf-focused releases by combining classic G-Lide ocean features with advanced fitness and health tracking.

The GBX-H5600KI-5 is based on the GBX-H5600 platform, which means it is more than just a rugged tide watch. Casio has equipped it with a heart rate monitor, blood oxygen measurement, sleep tracking, and training analysis powered by Polar. For surfers, athletes, and outdoor users who want a durable watch that can handle both the ocean and daily training, this model offers a strong mix of performance tools and G-Shock toughness.

Kanoa Igarashi is one of the most recognizable names in modern surfing. As an Olympic silver medalist and a long-time G-Shock ambassador, he has already worked with Casio on several previous models, including the GLX-5600KI-7, GBX-100KI-1, and GLX-5600KB-1. While those watches focused heavily on surfing functions, the new GBX-H5600KI-5 takes the concept further by adding more complete health and workout support.

The design of the GBX-H5600KI-5 is inspired by Ericeira, Portugal, a famous surf destination where Igarashi regularly trains. The watch features a dark brown marbled case that reflects the rocky cliffs of the coastal town. Purple accent details are used to represent the early morning “magic hour,” when the sky casts a violet glow over the water before sunrise.

Casio has also added several personal touches linked to Igarashi. His signature appears below the display, while his WSL bib number, 50, is printed on the lower strap. The number also carries symbolic meaning, as “Igarashi” in Japanese can be interpreted as a storm that comes once in 50 years. The watch will also arrive in special ocean-themed packaging, making it feel more like a collector’s edition than a standard release.

Despite its expanded feature set, the GBX-H5600KI-5 is designed to stay practical for water sports. The carbon-reinforced case back helps reduce weight by 18 grams compared with its predecessor. That may not sound dramatic on paper, but for surfers and athletes who wear a watch during long sessions, every bit of weight reduction can make a difference.

As expected from a G-Lide model, the watch still includes surf-friendly tools such as tide graphs and moon phase data. These features remain essential for surfers who track ocean conditions, while the new heart rate and training functions make the watch more useful outside the water as well.

The Casio G-Shock GBX-H5600KI-5 is priced at 50,600 yen in Japan, which is roughly around $310. A wider international release has not yet been fully detailed, but the watch is expected to launch in July.

With its rugged build, surf-focused design, athlete-inspired details, and upgraded fitness tracking, the GBX-H5600KI-5 stands out as one of the most capable Kanoa Igarashi G-Shock models so far. It is aimed at surfers, fitness-focused users, and collectors who want a G-Shock that blends ocean utility with modern health tracking.
