Casio G-Shock GBX-H5600 Launches in Japan With Heart Rate Tracking, Solar Charging, and Tide Graph Features
Casio has officially released its new G-Shock GBX-H5600 series in Japan, and it is already attracting strong demand. The launch is notable because this is the first model in the G-LIDE lineup to include an optical heart rate monitor, making it a more capable option for surfers, runners, gym users, and outdoor fitness fans.
The new series arrives in two versions: the black GBX-H5600-1JR and the blue GBX-H5600-2JR. Both are priced at ¥44,000, including tax, which is roughly $277. The blue model appears to be the early favorite, as it has already sold out through Casio’s official Japanese online store. At the time of launch, the black version remains available.
The GBX-H5600 keeps the familiar square G-Shock look while adding a more modern and sporty finish. Both versions feature a semi-transparent bezel and a carbon fiber reinforced resin center case, helping keep the watch light and durable. Despite its rugged build, the watch weighs only 47 grams and measures 51.1 × 44.5 × 17.3 mm.
One of the biggest upgrades is the high-resolution MIP LCD display. This Memory In Pixel screen is designed for better contrast, wide viewing angles, and improved outdoor readability. It also supports detailed full-dot graphics, including the tide graph wave visuals that are closely associated with the G-LIDE surf watch series.
Fitness tracking is a major focus of the GBX-H5600. The watch includes an optical heart rate sensor capable of measuring heart rate from 30 to 220 bpm, along with a 3-axis accelerometer for activity tracking. Users can monitor steps, track workouts, measure blood oxygen levels, follow breathing exercises, and record activities such as running, walking, and gym training.
Sleep tracking is also included, with recovery analysis designed to give users a clearer picture of rest quality and overall condition. This makes the GBX-H5600 more than just a surf-focused G-Shock; it is also a practical daily fitness watch for people who want health data without moving to a full smartwatch.
For surfers and ocean-focused users, the tide graph remains one of the key attractions. When connected to a smartphone, the watch supports tide information for up to 3,300 locations worldwide. It also provides sunrise and sunset times, along with moon phase data, giving users helpful outdoor and marine information directly on the wrist.
Bluetooth connectivity works through the Casio Watches app. Once paired, the GBX-H5600 can display phone notifications, access training analysis, use GPS-assisted distance correction, and provide world time data for around 300 cities. These connected features make the watch more useful for travel, training, and everyday use.
Battery life is handled through a hybrid USB and solar charging system. With heart rate monitoring active, the watch can run for up to 35 hours. In power-saving mode, battery life can extend up to 11 months, depending on usage. The watch also carries a 20 BAR water resistance rating, making it suitable for swimming, surfing, and other water-based activities.
The Casio G-Shock GBX-H5600 series is now available in Japan at ¥44,000. With the blue GBX-H5600-2JR already sold out and no restock date confirmed, early demand suggests this new heart rate-enabled G-LIDE model could become one of Casio’s more popular fitness-focused G-Shock releases.
