Casio W-221HD-1A Debuts as an Affordable Square Digital Watch With a Stainless Steel Strap
Casio has officially introduced the W-221HD-1A, a fresh take on its square digital watch lineup that combines classic styling with a more polished metal-band design. The model had been rumored earlier in 2026, and it has now appeared on Casio’s Thailand website under the name W-221HD-1A, also listed as W-221HD-1AV.
The biggest change is the strap. While earlier W-221 models used resin bands, this new version comes with a stainless steel bracelet, giving the watch a more premium everyday look while keeping the simple, practical appeal that Casio digital watches are known for. The case remains silver-colored resin, helping the watch stay lightweight and affordable.
In terms of features, the Casio W-221HD-1A keeps the same useful functions found in the original versions. The square digital display shows the time clearly and supports both 12-hour and 24-hour formats. Users can also select from 48 city time zones, making it a handy choice for travelers or anyone who regularly tracks different time zones.
The watch includes a fully automatic calendar programmed through the year 2099, reducing the need for manual date adjustments. For nighttime use, Casio has added an amber LED backlight, making the display easier to read in darker conditions.
Other everyday tools include a countdown timer, stopwatch, hourly time signal, and multifunction alarm. The W-221HD-1A also offers 50-meter water resistance, which should be enough for daily use, light splashes, and brief exposure to water.
In Thailand, the Casio W-221HD-1A is listed with a recommended retail price of ฿2,900, which is approximately $86. However, it is not yet available to purchase at the time of listing. Casio has not confirmed when the new stainless steel strap version will arrive in other regions, including the US.
With its retro square design, metal bracelet, world time support, and budget-friendly positioning, the Casio W-221HD-1A could appeal to fans looking for a durable digital watch with a slightly more refined look than the standard resin-strap models.
