Fujifilm X Shooters Just Got a Budget-Friendly 23mm f/1.4 Autofocus Lens

Thypoch Sculptor AF 23mm f/1.4 arrives for Fujifilm X cameras at an appealing $349 price

Fujifilm X-series shooters now have another fast prime lens to consider. The Thypoch Sculptor AF 23mm f/1.4 has launched for Fujifilm X-mount cameras, offering a classic 35mm full-frame equivalent field of view, a bright f/1.4 aperture, and autofocus support at a competitive price.

Designed for APS-C Fujifilm cameras, the 23mm focal length makes this lens a strong everyday option for street photography, travel, environmental portraits, lifestyle shots, and low-light scenes. Its 35mm-equivalent perspective is wide enough to capture context while still feeling natural for subject-focused images, making it one of the most versatile focal lengths for photographers who prefer a single walkaround prime.

The lens supports both autofocus and manual focus, giving users flexibility depending on their shooting style. It can focus as close as 0.25 meters from the sensor, allowing photographers to get relatively near to subjects for tighter compositions. However, because of its focal length, the maximum magnification is limited to 0.13x, so it is not intended as a macro lens.

Inside, Thypoch uses a more advanced optical formula than some budget primes, with 12 elements arranged in 10 groups. This design aims to deliver sharp results while controlling common optical issues such as distortion, softness, and aberrations. The wide f/1.4 aperture should also help create strong background separation, especially when photographing portraits, food, details, or night scenes.

Another notable detail is the 10-blade aperture. This rounded aperture design is intended to produce smoother out-of-focus areas, while also creating an attractive sunstar effect when the lens is stopped down. That could make it useful for cityscapes, night photography, and landscape scenes where point light sources are part of the composition.

At $349 in the United States, the Thypoch Sculptor AF 23mm f/1.4 enters the Fujifilm X-mount market as a relatively affordable fast autofocus prime. It may appeal to photographers looking for a bright 35mm-equivalent lens without spending significantly more on premium first-party glass.

The Thypoch Sculptor AF 23mm f/1.4 for Fujifilm X cameras is available now in the U.S. market.
