Jeff Pu from GF Securities has highlighted in his latest notes to investors that Apple’s expansive iPad Fold is set to enter mass production in the latter half of 2026, suggesting a potential release shortly thereafter, possibly by the end of 2026 or early 2027. The timing hinges on when Apple kicks off the mass production phase—a critical step that might accelerate or delay the official launch.
According to Pu, both the foldable iPad and iPhone are currently in the New Product Introduction phase at Foxconn, which indicates that their designs are starting to materialize. This stage also increases the likelihood that subsequent leaks will contain more substantial information.
The final launch window remains a subject of speculation. If production begins earlier than the anticipated late 2026 timeframe, Apple might unveil the devices sooner, potentially ramping up anticipation towards the end of next year. Meanwhile, Mark Gurman from Bloomberg proposed a slightly different scenario, suggesting a larger, 20-inch foldable iPad might surface in 2028. This indicates divergent predictions about Apple’s future plans in the foldable market, especially with display analyst Ross Young predicting an entry timeframe between 2026 and 2027.
Regarding the nature of this foldable device, its identity as either an iPad or a Mac is still speculative. Pu envisions it as a hybrid device merging characteristics of both, potentially running a new version of macOS with touch functionality. Meanwhile, Ming-Chi Kuo referred to it as a MacBook, whereas Gurman theorized it might belong to the iPad family.
