MediaTek is once again pushing boundaries with the announcement of its latest powerhouse, the Dimensity 9400+. This chip takes things up a notch from their first 3nm marvel, the Dimensity 9400, utilizing TSMC’s cutting-edge second-generation 3nm process, dubbed N3E. The big story here isn’t just raw power but exceptional efficiency, as this chipset thrills without the need for lower power cores.
While the Dimensity 9400+ doesn’t completely rewrite the rule book, it does add a little oomph with a slight performance boost and improved AI capabilities. Look out for smartphones equipped with this chip hitting shelves in the second quarter of the year. The core lineup is all about performance, featuring a single ARM Cortex-X925 cranked to 3.73GHz, three Cortex-X4 cores at 3.30GHz, and four Cortex-A720 cores cruising at 2.40GHz. The graphics side is handled by the trusty ARM Immortalis GPU, boasting 12 cores and supporting ray tracing.
The specs don’t stop there. The Dimensity 9400+ is packed with 12MB of L3 cache, complemented by 10MB of system cache and 10MB of SLC. Users can enjoy blazing-fast LPDDR5X RAM, next-gen UFS 4.0 storage, and Wi-Fi 7 tri-band with an impressive maximum bandwidth of 7.3Gbps. Bluetooth 6.0 is onboard, with speeds peaking at 12Mbps, and for display aficionados, there’s support for a WQHD+ panel with a buttery-smooth 180Hz refresh rate.
Battery life benefits from MediaTek’s Ultrasave 4.0 technology, extending usage time without compromising performance. It also supports DeepSeek’s R1 model out of the box, enhancing efficiency even further.
Photographers and videographers will appreciate the support for a single 320MP camera, with video capture capabilities reaching up to 8K at 60 frames per second. On the AI front, the chipset utilizes MediaTek’s 890 NPU, which elevates device-based AI and Agentic AI tasks, offering a 20% performance upgrade in this area.
While there are modest improvements over the Dimensity 9400, this release is a warm-up to the eagerly anticipated Dimensity 9500, expected in the fourth quarter. Keep an eye on MediaTek as they continue to innovate and redefine mobile technology.
