Analogue 3D Update Brings Wireless Nintendo 64 Controller Support

Analogue 3D owners just got an upgrade that makes the modern N64-style experience feel even more complete. A fresh software release, 3DOS version 1.2.0, adds support for Nintendo’s official Nintendo 64 wireless controller made for Switch Online—meaning you can now pair and play with a controller that’s designed to closely match the look and feel of the original N64 pad.

When Analogue 3D launched, the company also highlighted its own wireless option: the 8BitDo 64 Bluetooth controller, offered in multiple colors. And for purists, the system already includes four controller ports for original Nintendo 64 wired controllers. With this new update, Analogue 3D expands player choice even further by bringing in support for Nintendo’s Switch Online N64 wireless controller, which was originally intended for use with the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2.

One of the biggest draws of the Switch Online N64 controller is authenticity. It’s a full-size replica of the classic Nintendo 64 controller, which is a major selling point for anyone chasing that original feel. It sells for $54.99 through Nintendo, but there’s an important catch: you need a paid Nintendo Switch Online membership to buy it. By comparison, the 8BitDo 64 Bluetooth controller usually comes in cheaper at $39.99, giving buyers two different paths depending on whether they prioritize price or an officially styled, true-to-size design.

Another notable detail for retro fans: the Switch Online N64 controller doesn’t require a rumble pak, helping simplify setup for players who just want to jump straight into their library.

Beyond controller support, 3DOS 1.2.0 includes a mix of fixes and quality-of-life improvements aimed at smoother day-to-day use. The update addresses compatibility issues with some 4K displays and switches, resolves problems tied to OS graphics, and fixes HDMI CEC/eARC compatibility. Audio also gets attention, with a fix for clipping and saturation.

The update also enhances the built-in game library experience. Analogue 3D now includes playtime tracking for games, shows when each title was added to your library, and displays extra game info such as Expansion Pak and Controller Pak support. If you use the 8BitDo 64 controller, the system will now also provide an automatic reminder when the controller is out of date or not set to D-mode.

For Analogue 3D players looking to fine-tune their setup—especially those who want an official-style Nintendo 64 wireless controller in the mix—this update brings a welcome set of improvements and adds another great way to play.
