8BitDo Unveils Two New Gadgets to Bring Back the Nintendo 64 Era

8BitDo is leaning into Nintendo 64 nostalgia with two fresh releases aimed at modernizing how you play classic N64 games today: a new Retro Receiver designed specifically for the Nintendo 64, and an updated 8BitDo 64 2.4G controller that’s built for easy wireless play.

One standout upgrade is memory function support. Instead of relying on older save methods, supported saves can be stored on a paired receiver and exported using 8BitDo’s Ultimate Software. For players who like to back up progress or move saves around more conveniently, that extra flexibility makes a real difference.

Alongside the controller, 8BitDo has unveiled the Nintendo 64 Retro Receiver, which uses Bluetooth Low Energy to connect with a wide range of controllers. That means it’s not limited to 8BitDo hardware—though it does work with dozens of 8BitDo controllers, including the 8BitDo 64. It also supports popular third-party options such as the Nintendo Switch Online N64 controller, Xbox Series S|X controllers, and Sony’s DualShock 4 and DualSense controllers. For anyone who wants to use their favorite modern gamepad on original N64 hardware, this is the kind of compatibility that makes setup far simpler.

Pricing is straightforward. The Nintendo 64 Retro Receiver is listed at $24.99 on its own. The 8BitDo 64 2.4G controller is priced at $39.99, matching the cost of the black and white versions that offer Bluetooth connectivity. The difference here is value: this new release includes a Retro Receiver in the box at the same $39.99 price point, which could make it a better buy for anyone starting from scratch.

Both the 8BitDo 64 2.4G and the Nintendo 64 Retro Receiver are scheduled to begin shipping in the US on March 23.
