China’s homegrown x86 ambitions just took a notable step forward. MAXHUB, a well-known systems integrator, has introduced an “AI+ desktop” powered by Zhaoxin’s KX-7000 processor, signaling a stronger push toward a fully domestic computing ecosystem that can stand in for Western chips.
The KX-7000 is built around an 8-core, 8-thread configuration using Zhaoxin’s x86 Century Avenue architecture and a 7 nm chiplet design. Even the package and heat spreader draw comparisons to Intel’s LGA 1700 style, underscoring the intent to deliver a familiar, drop-in desktop experience. While the KX-7000 isn’t Zhaoxin’s newest design—the company has also showcased its KH-5000 server lineup—it represents a concrete, widely deployable option in China’s growing roster of locally developed CPUs.
MAXHUB’s compact 10-liter AI+ desktop focuses on on-device intelligence rather than cloud reliance. Out of the box, it includes a dedicated AI assistant and practical tools such as intelligent cutout and file conversion, bringing everyday AI workflows closer to the user and eliminating the need to juggle multiple third-party apps. The result is a streamlined experience for professionals who want productivity features that work natively on the machine.
In early performance notes, the desktop is said to handle high-bitrate 1080p30 and 4K30 online video playback with reasonable CPU utilization, indicating the KX-7000 can comfortably manage common media workloads. It won’t dethrone leading Intel or AMD parts in raw performance, but that’s not the point. The larger goal is a robust, end-to-end domestic platform—hardware and software—that reduces dependency on foreign suppliers while meeting everyday business and AI needs.
With Beijing encouraging firms like Loongson and Zhaoxin to accelerate CPU development, MAXHUB’s AI+ desktop shows how these chips can power real products today. For buyers who value on-device AI features, a compact footprint, and an all-domestic technology stack, this machine offers a glimpse of where China’s PC ecosystem is headed.
