YouTube TV is unbundling its lineup. Starting in early 2026, the Google-owned service will roll out more than 10 genre-specific channel packages, giving subscribers the option to pay only for the types of content they actually watch. It’s the first time YouTube TV has broken apart its traditional cable-style bundle, and it’s aimed squarely at price-conscious cord-cutters who want flexibility without losing core features.
One of the headliners will be a sports-focused package that includes access to major broadcasters alongside sports networks such as FS1, NBC Sports, and the full slate of ESPN channels, plus ESPN Unlimited. Sports fans will still be able to add premium extras like NFL Sunday Ticket and RedZone. Crucially, popular YouTube TV features aren’t going anywhere: unlimited DVR, multiview, key plays, and fantasy view will continue to be included.
Beyond sports, YouTube TV plans dedicated bundles for news, family programming, and general entertainment, with more categories to come. While exact prices haven’t been announced, the company says these smaller packs will cost less than the current base plan, which is $82.99 per month. That pricing strategy could entice viewers who’ve been frustrated by rising bills or who don’t need 100-plus channels to get their fix.
YouTube TV’s subscriptions chief, Christian Oestlien, framed the change as a move to make TV simpler and more personal. The idea is to let users tailor a lineup that fits their habits—stick with the main plan, zero in on sports, combine sports with news, or build a family- and entertainment-first package.
This shift mirrors a broader trend across live TV streaming, where providers are experimenting with leaner, genre-driven options. Competitors have introduced sports-centric plans and a la carte packs for entertainment, kids, and news, signaling that the era of “everything in one bundle” is giving way to custom-built channel mixes.
