Xiaomi XRING 03 goes official

Xiaomi Unveils XRING 03: A 3nm TSMC N3P Powerhouse With 24B Transistors, LPDDR6 Support, and All-Big-Core CPU Design

Xiaomi XRING 03 Chipset Could Bring Major 3nm Performance Gains, LPDDR6 Support, and a Powerful New GPU

Xiaomi’s next-generation XRING 03 smartphone chipset is shaping up to be a major step forward, even if it is not moving to TSMC’s newest 2nm manufacturing process. Instead, the company is reportedly using the improved 3nm N3P node, a refined version of the technology used for its earlier XRING 01 chip.

That may sound like a smaller upgrade on paper, but the XRING 03 appears to bring meaningful changes across the board. With a larger die size, 24 billion transistors, a new all-big-core CPU layout, stronger graphics hardware, and support for next-generation LPDDR6 memory, Xiaomi seems to be positioning this chip as a serious flagship mobile processor.

One of the biggest changes is the die size. The XRING 03 reportedly measures 133mm², up from 109mm² on the XRING 01. That extra space allows Xiaomi to include more hardware, including 16MB of SLC cache and a more aggressive CPU configuration designed for high-end performance.

The CPU setup is said to use a “6 + 4” layout. This includes two ARM C1-Ultra cores clocked at up to 4.35GHz, four C1-Premium cores running at 3.68GHz, and four C1-Pro cores operating at 3.15GHz. This all-big-core approach suggests Xiaomi is focusing heavily on peak performance, multitasking, gaming, and demanding AI-driven mobile workloads.

Graphics performance could be another major highlight. The XRING 03 is expected to feature a 16-core G2-Ultra NX GPU. Xiaomi reportedly claims this graphics unit delivers up to 85 percent better overall GPU performance compared to the previous generation. Ray tracing performance is said to see an even larger improvement of 182 percent, while power consumption may drop by 64 percent.

If those figures translate well into real-world use, the XRING 03 could offer a much better gaming experience, smoother frame rates, improved visual effects, and better thermal efficiency. Lower power usage would also be important for battery life, especially during long gaming sessions or graphics-heavy tasks.

Another standout upgrade is memory support. The XRING 03 is described as the first smartphone SoC to support LPDDR6 RAM. With speeds reaching 10,667Mbps and a 4 x 24-bit bus width, the chip can reportedly achieve 113.8GB/s of memory bandwidth. That would represent a 48 percent increase over the XRING 01.

Higher memory bandwidth can help in many areas, from faster app loading and smoother multitasking to better gaming performance and improved camera processing. As smartphones continue to handle more AI, imaging, and high-resolution video tasks, faster RAM could become a major advantage for premium devices.

Xiaomi also appears to be improving camera capabilities with its fifth-generation imaging system. The XRING 03 is said to support camera sensors up to 432MP with 24-bit color depth. This could open the door for more advanced computational photography, richer color processing, and higher-quality image capture on future Xiaomi flagship phones.

Video support is also getting an upgrade, with H.266 hardware decoding included. H.266, also known as VVC, is designed to offer better compression efficiency than older video standards. This means users could stream or store high-quality video with reduced file sizes, depending on software and platform support.

Unlike the XRING 01, which was limited to China, the XRING 03 may have a broader release strategy. Current information suggests the chipset could appear in the Xiaomi 18 Fold, with a global launch expected later this year. If that happens, it would mark an important moment for Xiaomi’s in-house silicon ambitions outside its home market.

The XRING 03 shows that Xiaomi is not simply chasing smaller manufacturing nodes. By refining its 3nm design and investing in CPU performance, GPU power, memory bandwidth, imaging hardware, and efficiency, the company may be preparing a flagship chip that can compete more directly in the premium smartphone space.

Full real-world performance numbers, battery efficiency results, and benchmark comparisons are still expected, but the early specifications point to a highly ambitious mobile processor. If Xiaomi can deliver on these claims, the XRING 03 could become one of the most interesting smartphone chipsets of the year.
