Youniq Duo Could Be the Next Dual-Screen Handheld to Watch
A new dual-screen gaming handheld appears to be preparing for a debut, and it may give the Anbernic RG DS some direct competition. Called the Youniq Duo, the device seems to follow the same retro-inspired formula that made Nintendo DS-style handhelds so appealing, but with one notable advantage: a built-in stylus.
Dual-screen handheld gaming is gaining attention again, especially among retro gaming fans who want a device that can better support classic Nintendo DS-style gameplay. Anbernic recently entered this space with the RG DS, an Android-powered handheld featuring two displays and a familiar clamshell-like layout. Now, Youniq appears ready to step into the same category with its own take on the concept.
According to early marketing details, the Youniq Duo will feature high-definition dual screens and support 4x pixel-perfect scaling. That should make it especially interesting for retro gaming enthusiasts who care about sharper visuals and accurate image presentation when playing older titles.
The built-in stylus may be one of the biggest differences between the Youniq Duo and its closest rival. While the Anbernic RG DS includes a capacitive stylus, it does not appear to have an integrated slot for storing it inside the handheld. Youniq’s approach sounds closer to the original Nintendo DS experience, where the stylus was always part of the hardware design and easy to access.
The early image of the Youniq Duo suggests a design that looks very similar to the Anbernic RG DS, though there are a few visible differences. The device appears to include three status LEDs near the left hinge, reportedly for Wi-Fi, location, and power. It also features purple thumbsticks and a matching purple D-pad, giving the handheld a more playful visual identity.
At this stage, many key details remain unknown. There is no confirmed information about the processor, RAM, battery capacity, operating system, storage options, screen size, or supported gaming platforms. Pricing and release timing have also not been announced.
Ports are not clearly visible in the available image, so it is unclear whether the Youniq Duo will use a similar layout to the Anbernic RG DS or take a different approach. Connectivity, charging, display output, and expandable storage support are still questions waiting to be answered.
Youniq is not yet a widely recognized name in the handheld gaming market, although the company is said to have experience with gaming accessories, including controllers. It has also claimed to have a large presence in China and experience working with many gaming brands, though specific partners have not been named.
Interestingly, the promotional material also appears to show another device concept: a handheld that resembles a DualShock-style controller with a display positioned in the center. Its design gives off the impression of a PlayStation Portal-like device imagined through the design language of the PS2 or PS3 era. However, no details about that product have been shared either.
More information may arrive at Gamescom 2026 in Cologne, Germany, where Youniq is expected to appear at Hall 10.1, Booth C-052G. If the company reveals full specifications, pricing, and launch plans there, the Youniq Duo could quickly become one of the more talked-about retro gaming handhelds of the year.
For now, the Youniq Duo is shaping up to be an intriguing dual-screen handheld for fans of Nintendo DS-style gaming, Android gaming devices, and portable emulation systems. If it delivers strong performance, a polished software experience, accurate display scaling, and a practical built-in stylus, it could become a serious alternative to the Anbernic RG DS.
