Xiaomi is expanding its budget audio lineup with the launch of the Redmi Buds 8 in China, a new pair of affordable true wireless earbuds designed to bring premium-style features to the entry-level price range. With a starting price of CNY 229 (around $33), the Redmi Buds 8 are positioned to appeal to buyers who want noise cancellation, long battery life, and modern audio features without paying flagship earbud prices.
One of the biggest selling points is active noise cancellation rated up to 55dB. Xiaomi says users can choose between three different ANC levels, which is useful if you want stronger isolation in noisy environments like public transport, or a lighter setting for office use where you still need some awareness of your surroundings.
For audio performance, the Redmi Buds 8 use an 11mm dynamic driver along with a multi-layer composite diaphragm. Xiaomi also includes support for LHDC V5, enabling Hi-Res Audio Wireless certification. Keep in mind, though, that LHDC support tends to be more common on many China-focused smartphones, so the best results may depend on the phone you pair them with.
The earbuds also focus on customization and call quality. A built-in sound personalization option lets users create a SoundID profile tailored to their listening preferences, which can help fine-tune the sound without manual EQ adjustments. For calls, Xiaomi includes a three-microphone system supported by an AI-based noise reduction algorithm, aiming to keep voices clearer even when you’re outside or in windy conditions.
Comfort and portability are clearly part of the pitch as well. Each earbud is said to weigh about 5 grams, and the ergonomic design is intended for long listening sessions with less ear fatigue—an important detail for people who wear earbuds for commuting, work calls, or workouts.
Battery life is another headline feature. Xiaomi claims up to 44 hours of total playback when using the charging case, which puts the Redmi Buds 8 among the stronger options in the budget wireless earbuds category for endurance.
In China, the Redmi Buds 8 are available in three color options. Xiaomi is also expected to launch them in more markets soon, which could make them a compelling low-cost alternative for anyone shopping for noise-cancelling wireless earbuds with long battery life and personalization features.
