Xiaomi Readies a High-Performance EV SUV to Challenge Tesla’s Model X Plaid

Xiaomi is lining up a head-turning electric SUV to take on one of the fastest family haulers on the planet: the Tesla Model X Plaid. The rumored Xiaomi YU7 GT is said to pack a tri-motor powertrain targeting roughly 1,000 horsepower, putting it squarely in the same league as the Model X Plaid’s 1,020-hp benchmark and its staggering 0-60 mph sprint of just 2.5 seconds.

Best known for smartphones and smart home gear, Xiaomi has quickly earned credibility in the EV space. Its debut sedan drew strong demand, followed by the competitively priced YU7 SUV aimed at Tesla’s core models. Now the brand appears ready to match the top-spec performance tier with a GT variant built for speed, grip, and track-ready stability.

A camouflaged prototype believed to be the YU7 GT has been spotted testing at Germany’s Nürburgring, a proving ground famous for sorting the best from the rest. The prototype wears serious aero: a fixed rear wing, an aggressive rear diffuser, a prominent front splitter, and a ventilated hood. Black wheel arches and sporty alloy wheels complete the performance-first stance, signaling this is no standard YU7.

While final specifications remain under wraps, here’s what enthusiasts should watch for:
– Tri-motor drivetrain with around 1,000 horsepower
– High-performance tuning aimed at blistering acceleration
– Aerodynamic package for improved downforce and cooling
– Nürburgring development for chassis, braking, and thermal endurance
– Potential announcement as early as September 25 at a teased product event

Xiaomi’s rapid rise in electric mobility reflects its founder Lei Jun’s ambitious vision. With the YU7 GT, the company appears intent on challenging every rung of Tesla’s lineup, including its most extreme variants. If pricing follows Xiaomi’s usual playbook, the GT could become one of the most disruptive performance EV SUVs on the market.

Official specs, range figures, and pricing are expected soon. Until then, all signs point to a flagship SUV engineered to punch above its weight—and give the Model X Plaid a genuine reason to check its mirrors.
