An esteemed leaker, Digital Chat Station, has unveiled that around 200,000 units of a particular clamshell foldable have been deployed in China, surpassing initial shipment forecasts. This device is being favorably compared to a larger, book-style folding model from the same manufacturer, hinting that the clamshell is likely the new Mix Flip, while the book-style device is Xiaomi’s fourth-gen Mix Fold. With disappointing performance, the Mix Fold might not see another iteration, whereas the Mix Flip may require an additional production run to satisfy burgeoning demand.
Despite being Xiaomi’s inaugural entry into the foldable clamshell market, the Mix Flip impressively stands its ground against established competitors like the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip6. It boasts a 120Hz cover display, a larger battery, and dual 50MP Leica-branded rear cameras. Notably, its cover display matches the size of the Motorola Razr+ 2024, which otherwise would be the frontrunner in this category, and it’s powered by the robust Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC. Though the Mix Flip supports a 120Hz refresh rate on both displays, it falls short of Razr+’s 165Hz.
However, the Mix Flip lacks wireless charging, a feature that its more seasoned rivals offer. Despite this shortcoming, it holds substantial market potential and might capture a significant share upon its global release. Currently, the first-generation Mix Flip is available for purchase through resellers like TradingShenzhen, with prices starting at €857 (~$957).
As consumers eagerly await its wider availability, the Mix Flip’s promising specs and robust performance make it a strong contender in the competitive foldable smartphone market. Xiaomi’s innovative approach and compelling features highlight the company’s commitment to pushing boundaries and challenging industry norms.
