Xiaomi Launches Android 15 Beta Program for Select Flagship Models

Xiaomi has made strides in its software development by launching a beta program for the upcoming Android 15. Following the initiation of its HyperOS beta program, Xiaomi has now integrated early Android 15 beta builds into its ‘Developer Preview Program’. This move aligns with that of other smartphone companies like Honor, indicating a push towards providing developers and early adopters with a sneak peek of the next iteration of Android.

The Developer Preview Program is aimed at assisting developers in fine-tuning their applications and ensuring compatibility with Android’s future version. Xiaomi emphasizes the significance of the program:

“The Android 15 Developer Preview Program offers the essential features you need to refine your application and ensure it’s ready for the next version of Android.”

Contrary to certain beta programs that impose restrictions, Xiaomi seems to have taken a more open approach. It allows anyone with an unlocked device bootloader to download and install the first Android 15 build. However, Xiaomi underlines the potential security risks and unpredictable consequences of bootloader unlocking, indicating that users must be aware of the risks and willing to accept them when applying for unlocking.

The initial rollout of the Android 15 beta is available for three of Xiaomi’s latest high-end devices—the Xiaomi 13T Pro, Xiaomi 14, and Xiaomi Pad 6S Pro 12.4. These beta builds can be found in Xiaomi’s support post where installation instructions and system image download links are provided. While these are the only models currently included, it is anticipated that Xiaomi will progressively extend the beta program to encompass more devices.

Users participating in the beta program have the flexibility to wipe their devices clean and return to factory settings, thus opting out of the beta program whenever they choose to do so.

As Android evolves, beta programs like these play a crucial role in preparing both the software and the devices for a seamless transition to newer versions. It’s an exciting phase for developers, tech enthusiasts, and consumers alike who are eager to explore the novel features and improvements Android 15 promises. Users with compatible devices who are willing to navigate the risks associated with beta software can become part of this developmental journey and contribute to the final product’s stability and functionality.
