As anticipation builds for the launch of the Xiaomi 15 series, following the announcement of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 processor, consumers may need to prepare for a potential increase in cost. A notable Weibo source noted for tech insights has indicated that the upcoming Xiaomi 15 lineup might see a surge in prices due to several market factors.
The previous models, the Xiaomi 14, were introduced at a starting price of CNY 3,999, which equates to roughly $552, while the more premium 14 Pro launched at CNY 4,999 or around $691. When released internationally, these prices saw a considerable jump, with the base variant tagged at €999, and the 14 Ultra at €1,499. To put this into perspective, the higher pricing cast a noticeable difference compared to competitors like the Galaxy S24 series, which had initial prices ranging from $799.99 to $1,199.99.
The expected price increase for the Xiaomi 15 range is attributed to the growing costs of chips and memory components, as well as the rising prices of upstream materials. These factors are making it challenging for the tech giant to maintain the price point set by the predecessors of the Xiaomi 15 series.
Apart from the potential price increments, leaks regarding the Xiaomi 15 have revealed that both the standard and Pro versions of the new series could feature a triple 50 MP camera array. The aperture sizes on the upcoming models are also reportedly larger compared to the Xiaomi 14 series. The base model is anticipated to forgo a periscope telephoto sensor, similar to its predecessor, while the Xiaomi 15 Pro is expected to include a periscope lens with 3x optical zoom capabilities.
Design-wise, the new arrivals are rumored to bear a close resemblance to the previous generation but will offer improvements in areas where the Xiaomi 14 series was lacking. It’s been shared that both non-Ultra phones from the upcoming series will boast a 2K AMOLED screen, with the Pro variant featuring a sleek curved display. They aim to enhance the user experience by building upon and refining the features of the Xiaomi 14 models.
With the technology world changing at a rapid pace, the evolution of smartphones is a testament to the industry’s constant striving for better performance and enhanced features. Whether the price hike would be considered justifiable by consumers will depend on how significant these improvements turn out to be in the Xiaomi 15 series when it hits the market.
