Recent benchmarks for the AMD Radeon RX 9060 XT “RDNA 4” GPU have made their debut on Geekbench, revealing some surprising results. Despite expectations, the RX 9060 XT shows slower performance than its predecessor, the RX 7700 XT, which is based on the RDNA 3 architecture. This performance comparison is generating buzz in the tech community, especially for those eagerly awaiting advancements in AMD’s GPU lineup.
The Radeon RX 9060 XT targets mainstream gamers with two models: a 16 GB version priced at $349 and an 8 GB version at $299. The recent benchmark focused on the 16 GB variant, showcasing intriguing specifications. AMD is utilizing TSMC’s 4nm process, achieving impressive clock speeds up to 3.13 GHz—marking a first in GPU frequency straight out of the box. Custom versions could push these speeds even higher, between 3.2 and 3.3 GHz. The card’s total board power (TBP) ranges from 150 to 182 watts, varying by VRAM.
The memory structure of the RX 9060 XT is noteworthy, featuring both 8 GB and 16 GB versions with a 128-bit bus interface and 20 Gbps GDDR6 memory. This configuration places the RX 9060 XT alongside the RTX 5060 Ti in terms of memory, though the competition employs faster GDDR7 memory. Rumors suggested AMD might cancel the 8 GB variant due to poor reception of similar models by competitors, but this doesn’t appear to be the case.
In the OpenCL benchmark, the Radeon RX 9060 XT scored 109,315 points, which is 31% faster than the RX 7600 XT. However, it trails the RX 7700 XT by 14%. The Vulkan benchmark paints a similar picture, with the RX 9060 XT performing 25% better than the RX 7600 XT but 12% slower than the RX 7700 XT.
The testing system was robust, using an AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D CPU and 32 GB of DDR5-8000 memory. The GPU, however, reached a maximum speed of 2787 MHz, which is below its expected boost frequency. Despite current benchmarks, there is optimism about the RX 9060 XT’s real-world gaming performance, with official tests anticipated next month.
AMD positions the RX 9060 XT as a competitive alternative to the RTX 5060 Ti, promising better value by offering a higher specification at a lower price point.
The RDNA 4 lineup showcases impressive advancements in GPU architecture and technology, setting the stage for exciting developments in the gaming world. As more data emerges, gamers and tech enthusiasts alike are keenly watching for how the RX 9060 XT will ultimately stack up against competitors.
