Volkswagen has unveiled a new, sustainable car-seat material developed in collaboration with Revoltech. This innovative material is derived from by-products of the hemp industry, offering a renewable and sustainable alternative to traditional upholstery options like leather.
The trend towards vegan leather is gaining momentum in consumer technology, and Volkswagen’s new initiative for the ID. Buzz interior takes it a step further. The new leather alternative, developed by Revoltech, utilizes a unique technology that combines a 100% bio-based adhesive with hemp by-products to create a durable and sustainable covering for car interiors.
Named LOVR (leather-free, oil-free, vegan, and residue-based), this material boasts a completely circular life-cycle with renewable raw materials. It mimics leather in both appearance and texture and has received positive feedback in Volkswagen’s focus groups. This suggests that LOVR might be used in future models such as the ID.3, ID.4, and possibly the more premium ID.7.
