Timex Expands the Weekender New England Chronograph Line With Two Leather-Strap Models
Timex has introduced two new leather-strap versions of its Weekender New England Chronograph, giving the familiar casual watch collection a more refined look. The latest references, TW2Y85000 and TW2Y85200, arrive with cleaner dials, stainless-steel cases, and a price of $189 each, placing them among the higher-priced models in the Weekender family.
At first glance, these new Timex Weekender chronographs may look like simple strap updates, but there is one notable design change. Unlike the fabric-strap versions, which feature a large Arabic numeral at 12 o’clock, the new leather models use a full set of slim stick hour markers. The result is a more balanced and dressier dial layout while still keeping the easygoing character that has made the Weekender series popular.
The Timex TW2Y85000 features a cream dial paired with a tan leather strap, creating a classic vintage-inspired look. The TW2Y85200 takes a darker approach with a black dial and dark brown leather strap, giving it a slightly more understated and versatile style. Both models use contrast stitching along the strap edges, adding a casual detail that fits the Weekender identity.
Each watch comes in a 40 mm stainless-steel case with a mix of brushed and polished finishing. The case measures 11.5 mm thick and has a 48.5 mm lug-to-lug length, making it a practical size for everyday wear. A mineral crystal protects the dial, while the hands include luminous material for improved visibility in low-light conditions. The hour markers, however, do not appear to have lume.
The chronograph layout includes three sub-dials: a 30-minute elapsed-time counter, a 24-hour indicator, and a running seconds display positioned at 6 o’clock. Two pushers sit on the right side of the case alongside the crown, giving the watch the familiar sporty look of an analog chronograph.
Inside, the Timex Weekender New England Chronograph uses a quartz analog movement powered by a replaceable SR920SW battery. This keeps the watch simple to maintain and accurate for daily use, which is one of the main strengths of Timex’s accessible watch lineup.
Water resistance is rated at 50 meters, making the watch suitable for everyday splashes and light water exposure. Timex notes that the chronograph pushers should not be used underwater, which is common guidance for watches in this category.
The 20 mm leather strap includes quick-release spring bars, allowing owners to swap straps without tools. This makes it easy to change the look of the watch, whether pairing it with leather, fabric, or other compatible 20 mm straps. Timex lists the fit range at 5.9 to 8.1 inches.
Pricing is one of the more interesting points. At $189, these leather-strap chronographs cost more than several other Weekender models. A standard 40 mm Weekender on leather is priced much lower, while fabric-strap Weekender chronographs sit below these new releases as well. That makes the TW2Y85000 and TW2Y85200 some of the more premium options within the Weekender collection.
For buyers who like the approachable charm of the Timex Weekender but want a cleaner chronograph design with a leather strap, these new models offer a more polished alternative. The cream-dial version leans classic and warm, while the black-dial model feels sharper and easier to pair with darker outfits. Both watches keep the practical quartz movement, wearable sizing, and strap-changing convenience that make the Weekender line a popular choice for everyday watch fans.
