Timex Expedition Sierra Chronograph Debuts With Rugged Field-Watch Style and 100-Meter Water Resistance
Timex has expanded its outdoor-focused Expedition Sierra lineup with a new chronograph model aimed at fans of practical, adventure-ready watches. The latest release arrives in two versions, each priced at $179, bringing stopwatch functionality, bold field-watch styling, and everyday durability to the Sierra range.
The Expedition collection has long been associated with affordable outdoor watches, and the Sierra series leans heavily into that identity with clear dials, strong legibility, and reliable water resistance. Until now, the Sierra lineup was available mainly as a simple three-hand watch in 40 mm cases with fabric straps. The new chronograph models step things up with larger 43 mm cases and a more functional dial layout while keeping the rugged personality intact.
Both new Timex Expedition Sierra Chronograph watches feature 100-meter water resistance, making them suitable for everyday wear, outdoor use, and light water activities. They also include a date display, luminous hands and markers, and a quartz analog movement powered by a battery.
The two new references are the TW2Y89200 and the TW2Y89300. The TW2Y89200 comes with a black dial, an orange central chronograph seconds hand, and a leather strap sourced through the Leather Working Group. The TW2Y89300 features a khaki dial, a yellow central seconds hand, and a matching fabric strap with quick-release spring bars for easy strap changes without tools.
While both watches share the same case size, water resistance, movement type, and chronograph layout, the straps give each model a different appeal. The leather version has the sustainability-related label due to its Leather Working Group-certified strap, while the fabric version offers more convenience for those who like to swap straps quickly.
The dial design is classic Timex Expedition: easy to read, practical, and outdoorsy. Arabic numerals appear at the even-hour positions, with a triangular marker at 12 o’clock for quick orientation. An outer minute track surrounds the dial, and the hands and indices include luminous material for improved visibility in low light.
The chronograph layout places three sub-dials across the face. A 1/10-second counter sits at 12 o’clock, an elapsed-minutes register is positioned at 9 o’clock, and the running seconds sub-dial appears at 6 o’clock. The date window is placed at 3 o’clock, keeping the dial balanced while preserving everyday usefulness.
Timex also includes its familiar Expedition mountain logo above the 6 o’clock sub-dial, reinforcing the watch’s outdoor identity. The 100-meter water-resistance marking is printed directly on the dial, a useful reminder that these watches are built for more than just office wear.
At $179, the Timex Expedition Sierra Chronograph costs around $30 to $40 more than the non-chronograph Sierra models. That price increase brings a larger case, added stopwatch functionality, and a sportier overall look. For buyers who want a rugged quartz chronograph with field-watch character, the new Sierra models offer a compelling mix of style, function, and affordability.
Timex has not listed every technical detail yet, including the exact quartz caliber, case material, or crystal type. Still, the main selling points are clear: a 43 mm outdoor-inspired chronograph, 100-meter water resistance, luminous details, a date window, and two strap options with distinct advantages.
