Just two years after its debut as a Twitter rival, Meta’s Threads has reached a remarkable milestone of over 400 million monthly active users. Instagram’s head, Adam Mosseri, revealed this impressive growth in a recent Threads post, expressing his gratitude and excitement for the platform’s evolution over the past two years. Originally conceived as an ambitious alternative to Twitter, Threads has grown into a vibrant hub for sharing diverse perspectives.
In the last quarter alone, Threads successfully attracted an additional 50 million monthly users. Back in late April, Meta’s CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, announced that the platform had already surpassed 350 million users. Meanwhile, Twitter, now known as X, reportedly boasts more than 600 million monthly active users based on past statements from its former CEO.
According to recent insights from market intelligence firm Similarweb, Threads is closing in on X’s daily mobile app users. In June 2025, Threads recorded 115.1 million daily active users on iOS and Android, showcasing a remarkable 127.8% growth compared to the previous year. Conversely, X managed 132 million daily active users, though it experienced a 15.2% decline year-over-year.
Despite Threads’ significant strides on mobile, X continues to dominate web visits globally. In June, X achieved an average of 145.8 million daily web visits, significantly outpacing Threads, which saw just 6.9 million.
Threads’ rapid growth is fueled by frequent updates, as the platform has rolled out various new features, including direct messaging, fediverse integrations, custom feeds, AI advancements, and more. As Threads continues to innovate, its potential to reshape social media interaction remains strong.
