The Elder Scrolls 6 may finally have a full title, and fans think Bethesda has been hiding it in plain sight for years.
Since its first teaser in 2018, The Elder Scrolls 6 has remained one of the most mysterious upcoming RPGs in gaming. Bethesda has shared very little about the project, keeping details about its setting, story, release date, and official name under tight control. However, a fan theory gaining new attention suggests the long-awaited sequel could be called The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel.
The idea is not entirely new, but recent activity has pushed the theory back into the spotlight. Fans on Reddit have been revisiting old clues, new comments, and possible hints connected to the game’s rumored setting. Sentinel is a major kingdom located in Hammerfell, a region that has long been believed to be the setting of The Elder Scrolls 6.
The Hammerfell theory has been around for years, largely because of the landscape shown in Bethesda’s original teaser trailer. The brief reveal featured rocky coastlines and terrain that many fans immediately linked to the province of Hammerfell. Since Sentinel is one of Hammerfell’s most important cities and kingdoms, it fits neatly with the long-running speculation.
More fuel was added when Xbox executive Asha Sharma recently mentioned seeing a live playthrough of the game. In her post, the game’s subtitle appeared to be redacted with eight asterisks. That detail caught the attention of fans because “Sentinel” is also an eight-letter word. Over the years, players have suggested several possible subtitles, including Skyrim 2, Covenant, Dominion, Starfall, and Orsinium, but Sentinel has become one of the strongest candidates.
Another part of the theory comes from Bethesda’s space RPG, Starfield. In 2023, a Reddit user claimed that the employee number shown in Starfield’s character customization screen was hiding a clue to the next Elder Scrolls title. According to the theory, the hidden message pointed toward Sentinel. At the time, it was treated as an interesting possibility, but the recent eight-letter redaction has made fans take a second look.
The speculation became even more interesting when former Bethesda writer and designer Michael Kirkbride responded to a related discussion with a simple “Yep.” Some fans interpreted the comment as a quiet confirmation that Sentinel is indeed the title. Others believe he may simply be having fun with the community, especially since Bethesda fans are known for dissecting every tiny detail.
Bethesda has a long history of placing hints, references, and secrets inside its games, so the idea that Starfield could include a tease for The Elder Scrolls 6 does not feel impossible. The studio has built its reputation on detailed worlds filled with hidden lore, and fans are always eager to uncover clues before an official announcement.
Still, nothing has been confirmed by Bethesda. Until the studio officially reveals the full name, The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel remains a rumor, even if it is one of the most convincing theories so far.
If the title is real, it could strongly suggest that Hammerfell and the kingdom of Sentinel will play a central role in the next chapter of the franchise. That would open the door to a very different Elder Scrolls experience, with desert landscapes, coastal regions, political conflict, and deep Redguard lore potentially shaping the adventure.
For now, The Elder Scrolls 6 continues to be one of the most anticipated games in development. Whether it is called Sentinel or something else entirely, fans are clearly ready for Bethesda to finally lift the curtain on its next massive fantasy RPG.
