Fallout Remasters and Elder Scrolls 6 Are Still Years Away, New Report Claims

Fallout Remasters and The Elder Scrolls 6 May Be Further Away Than Fans Hoped

Xbox may be talking more openly about bringing back beloved franchises, but fans waiting for the next big Bethesda revival may need to stay patient. Recent comments suggest that the long-rumored Fallout remasters and The Elder Scrolls 6 are still on a slower release track than many players expected.

Xbox chief strategy officer Matthew Ball recently said the company is interested in “reviving storied franchises,” a statement that immediately sparked excitement among fans of classic Bethesda RPGs. Fallout is still very much alive, especially after the success of the TV adaptation, but the wait for remastered versions of older games has become increasingly frustrating. At the same time, The Elder Scrolls 6 remains one of the most anticipated games in the industry, even though Skyrim launched all the way back in 2011.

According to gaming insider Jez Corden, who discussed Bethesda’s upcoming projects on the XB2 podcast, Fallout remasters are likely “a little bit further off” than many people think. He also suggested that The Elder Scrolls 6 is still “quite far away,” meaning fans should not expect a quick turnaround from Bethesda or Xbox.

Based on his comments, 2027 could be a realistic window for at least one Fallout remaster. The Elder Scrolls 6 may arrive later, possibly in 2028 or 2029. While those dates are not official, they line up with previous leaks and the current understanding that Bethesda is taking a long-term approach to its biggest franchises.

The most likely Fallout project to arrive first appears to be a remastered version of Fallout 3. The game was previously referenced during Microsoft’s 2023 FTC case, where documents also pointed to an Oblivion remaster. Since Oblivion Remastered eventually launched in April 2025, fans have been hoping that Fallout 3 Remastered could be next in line.

However, many players are even more eager for a Fallout: New Vegas remaster. The game remains one of the most beloved entries in the franchise, and its connection to the Fallout TV show has only increased demand. Corden has previously claimed that a refreshed version of New Vegas was in development, but it may still be years away. There is also uncertainty around the project, as original writer and designer Chris Avellone once suggested that Bethesda may not have access to the original source code, which could complicate any remastering effort.

As for Fallout 5, it is expected to happen eventually, but not before The Elder Scrolls 6. Bethesda studio head Todd Howard confirmed earlier this year that the team is focused on TES6, making it clear that the next mainline Elder Scrolls game is the priority before a new Fallout sequel.

For now, fans should temper expectations. A Fallout 3 remaster may be the first major Bethesda revival to arrive, but even that could still be a couple of years away. The Elder Scrolls 6 remains deep in development, and unless Bethesda decides to reveal new footage soon, players may be waiting until the end of the decade to finally explore its next massive fantasy world.
