Tesla Model Y L Boasts Impressive Range Despite Compact Battery in Three-Row SUV Design

The upcoming Tesla Model Y L trim is set to impress with a remarkable range, despite its larger size and weight. According to details revealed by the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, this six-seat version will feature an 82 kWh battery. Although initial rumors suggested a 90 kWh battery, the actual configuration still provides an impressive driving distance.

Interestingly, even with the Model Y L’s increased dimensions—seven inches longer and two inches taller—it boasts a range of 751 km (467 miles) per charge. This range is calculated using China’s CLTC method, known for being more optimistic than the US EPA estimates. Adjusting these figures for the EPA standard could result in a range similar to the current 327 miles for the AWD model in the US.

Inside, the Model Y L innovates with a smart 3-row layout. It features four captain seats across the first two rows and two full-size seats in the back, positioned lower to provide extra headroom for taller passengers. The second row includes motorized seats that not only slide to offer more legroom for the foldable third row but also fold flat for enhanced cargo capacity.

Additionally, with the press of a button, the rear seats of the 2026 Model Y transform, hinting that Tesla might apply similar innovations for all rear seats in this extended model featuring a longer wheelbase, a first for the Model Y.
