Tekken 8 made its debut in January last year on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC. With the Switch 2’s launch in June, showcasing impressive performance, bringing Tekken 8 to this console seems within reach. The game’s director sees this as a promising business opportunity, though acknowledging the effort required for such a port.
In an intriguing conversation with Eurogamer, game director Katsuhiro Harada expressed that while not off the table, the transition to the Switch 2 would demand significant work. From a business perspective, he noted the console’s success, highlighting its potential to expand Tekken 8’s audience. Though there are no definitive plans from Bandai Namco yet, this possibility excites both fighting game enthusiasts and fans of handheld gaming.
Harada humorously pointed out that while bringing Tekken 8 to the handheld would be challenging, it’s a decision worth considering. Historically, Tekken hasn’t made much of an appearance on Nintendo consoles, with Tekken Tag Tournament 2 on the Wii U in 2012 being the sole instance. However, given that titles like Cyberpunk 2077 and Hogwarts Legacy run smoothly on the Switch 2, there’s optimism that Tekken 8 could join their ranks, should developers invest the necessary effort.
