Steam slashes the price of a critically acclaimed WWII shooter to an all-time low

One of the most intense World War II shooters on PC just got a big price cut. Hell Let Loose is 60% off on Steam until October 20, dropping from around $50 to just under $20. It’s the lowest price to date and a great chance to jump into a tactical FPS that trades arcade-speed action for gritty realism and teamwork.

Released in July 2021 after nearly two years in Early Access, Hell Let Loose was developed by Black Matter in partnership with Team17. It’s built around large-scale battles on historically inspired maps such as Kursk, Carentan, and El Alamein, with authentic weapons, vehicles, and a frontline that constantly shifts as squads push and hold key objectives.

What sets it apart is how every role and decision matters. Players can jump in as riflemen, snipers, or tank crew, while one player per team takes command, coordinating attacks and calling in artillery or air support. Logistics are just as crucial as marksmanship: engineers construct supply points and repair stations, trucks ferry ammunition and materials to the front, and the commander can airdrop equipment when needed. Smart resource management is essential to keep tanks rolling, artillery firing, and the line advancing.

Communication is the backbone of the experience. Squads are tied together by integrated voice chat, with multiple radio channels for coordination between squad members, squad leaders, and the commander. Victory comes from tactics and cohesion, not lone-wolf heroics. That focus on teamwork, atmosphere, and demanding gunplay has earned the game a loyal community and strong word of mouth.

The reception reflects that. On Steam, Hell Let Loose has amassed more than 140,000 reviews with 82% positive. On Metacritic, it sits at a 79 Metascore with a 6.5 User Score. GameStar awarded it 86 out of 100 and praised its intense atmosphere and teamwork focus, calling it “the best World War II shooter in years.” The caveat: it has a steep learning curve and occasional technical hiccups, and it’s not ideal for players who prefer fast-paced, solo play.

This is also the first time the discount has hit 60% on Steam. If you want even more value, the Holidays Special Bundle includes two cosmetic DLCs for slightly less than the base game alone. Planning to play on the go? Hell Let Loose is marked as Playable on Steam Deck, and with a few tweaks to settings it should run smoothly.

If you’ve been waiting for a deep, tactical WW2 shooter where coordination and logistics win battles, this limited-time deal is a compelling reason to enlist.
