Sony has officially unveiled the WF-1000XM6 earbuds, ending months of leaks and speculation with a full breakdown of what’s new, what’s improved, and how much you’ll pay. The latest flagship true wireless earbuds are available to order now in two colors, Black and Platinum Silver, with a launch price of $329.99.
That new price makes the WF-1000XM6 noticeably more expensive than the previous WF-1000XM5, which debuted at $299.99. In other words, Sony is asking about 10% more this generation, and it’s positioning these earbuds squarely in premium territory for anyone shopping for top-tier noise-cancelling wireless earbuds.
Active noise cancellation remains the headline feature, and Sony is clearly betting that the upgrades will justify the higher cost. The WF-1000XM6 introduces the new QN3e noise-cancelling processor, which Sony says is three times faster than the one used in the WF-1000XM5. Alongside the new processor, Sony has expanded the microphone setup to eight microphones per earbud, designed to deliver stronger and more consistent noise reduction across different environments. Early impressions suggest the jump is significant, with outside noise reduced to the point where distractions can feel almost completely removed.
Sony is also promising better audio performance, not just better silence. The WF-1000XM6 features a new driver plus an improved DAC and amplifier, which should translate into cleaner playback, higher detail, and a more refined sound overall. Compared with Sony’s recent lineup, the WF-1000XM6 is being described as delivering standout audio performance even against other popular Sony earbuds and headphones, making it a serious option for listeners who care as much about sound quality as they do about noise cancellation.
Call quality has been upgraded as well, focusing on making voices clearer in real-world conditions like busy streets, public transit, or crowded offices. Sony combines beamforming microphones with a bone conduction sensor and AI-based noise reduction, all working together to isolate your voice while reducing background sounds. The goal is simple: the person on the other end hears you, not the environment around you.
In terms of battery life, the WF-1000XM6 appears to match the WF-1000XM5. Sony rates it for up to 24 hours of total listening time, with up to eight hours from the earbuds and another 16 hours from the charging case. Fast charging is included, and a quick five-minute charge is said to deliver around one hour of playback, which can be a lifesaver when you’re heading out the door.
With the WF-1000XM6, Sony is doubling down on the features buyers most search for in premium true wireless earbuds: class-leading noise cancellation, improved sound quality, clearer calls, and dependable battery life. The higher price may give some shoppers pause, but for those who want Sony’s newest processing tech and its most advanced ANC package in an in-ear design, the WF-1000XM6 is now official and ready to order in Black or Platinum Silver for $329.99.
