Sony Revamps Its Portable Wireless Speaker for the First Time in Two Years

Sony ULT Field 1 Gets a Fresh Smoke Blue Color Option After Two Years

Sony has introduced a new color option for its ULT Field 1 wireless portable speaker, giving the compact Bluetooth speaker a fresh look more than two years after its original launch. The latest finish, called Smoke Blue, joins the existing lineup of Black, Forest Gray, Off-White, and Orange.

The Sony ULT Field 1 was first released in April 2024 as the smaller and more affordable model in the ULT Field portable speaker range. Designed for users who want powerful sound in a travel-friendly body, the speaker has remained a popular choice for outdoor listening, casual home use, and on-the-go music playback.

With the arrival of Smoke Blue, Sony is giving buyers another stylish option without changing the hardware. Like the other versions, the new color comes with a matching carrying strap, making it easy to carry the speaker to the beach, park, campsite, or around the house.

The Smoke Blue Sony ULT Field 1 is currently available in China and the United States, though availability differs by region. In the US, the new color is listed at $139.99, which matches the price of the other color options. In China, the speaker is being offered at a discounted price of CNY 585, while its regular price is CNY 899.

At the moment, buyers in China can already purchase the Smoke Blue model. In the US, the new color has appeared on Sony’s official product listing, but it is not yet available to order. Other color options remain available through retailers, with some listings showing slightly lower prices.

Aside from the new color, the Sony ULT Field 1 keeps the same features and specifications. The speaker can be positioned upright or placed horizontally, allowing users to set it up in different spaces depending on how they want to listen. It also includes a passive radiator to help deliver stronger bass performance.

One of the key features of the ULT Field 1 is the dedicated ULT button. Pressing this button enhances low-end sound, giving music a deeper and more energetic bass response. This makes the speaker especially appealing for fans of pop, hip-hop, EDM, and other bass-heavy music genres.

The portable Bluetooth speaker is also built for everyday durability. It carries an IP67 rating for dust and water resistance, meaning it can handle outdoor conditions, splashes, and dusty environments. Sony also describes the speaker as rustproof and shockproof, making it suitable for more active use.

For calls, the Sony ULT Field 1 includes echo cancelling technology to help voices sound clearer during hands-free conversations. This can be useful when taking calls from a phone connected via Bluetooth.

Battery life is rated at up to 12 hours on a full charge, giving users enough playback time for a day out or an extended listening session at home. Charging is handled through USB-C, which has become the standard for modern portable devices.

Connectivity features include Bluetooth 5.3 and support for Fast Pair, allowing easier pairing with compatible Android devices. The speaker also works with the Sony Sound Connect app, where users can manage settings and adjust their listening experience.

The new Smoke Blue color does not change what the ULT Field 1 offers, but it does make Sony’s compact portable speaker lineup feel a little more refreshed. For buyers who were already considering the ULT Field 1, the new shade adds another attractive option to choose from while keeping the same rugged design, bass-focused sound, and portable convenience.
