Samsung’s first triple-folding phone, reportedly called the Galaxy Z TriFold, looks set to arrive in very limited numbers as the company gauges early interest. A new report indicates Samsung has only lined up components for an initial run of roughly 20,000 to 30,000 units—up from the 10,000 it initially floated to suppliers in July. Since then, the company hasn’t held substantive follow-up talks with component partners, leaving it unclear whether production will scale beyond this first batch.
By Samsung’s usual standards, that’s a tiny launch. For context, the Galaxy S25 Edge moved about 650,000 units in its first month. Of course, the TriFold lives in a different league: the starting price is expected to hover around $2,000, which naturally narrows the audience to early adopters and power users.
What sets the Galaxy Z TriFold apart is its engineering. The device uses two hinges, with one designed to fold tighter so the inner panels layer neatly over each other. This keeps the more fragile inner display shielded when closed. It’s a different strategy from Huawei’s approach on the Mate XT, which mixes an inward-folding panel with one that folds outward.
Beyond the form factor, the TriFold is shaping up to be a full-blown portable workstation.
Key details expected
– Displays: A 10-inch OLED inner screen (compared to the 8-inch panel on the Galaxy Fold 7) and a 6.5-inch cover display, with relatively thick bezels
– Cameras: Triple rear setup with a 200MP main camera offering up to 100x zoom capabilities, a 12MP ultrawide, and a 10MP telephoto with 3x optical zoom
– Battery: Three separate cells—possibly silicon-carbon—with a combined capacity exceeding 5,000mAh
– Processor: Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5
– Build: Titanium frame
Taken together, the hardware reads like a tech showcase built for multitasking, content creation, and immersive media on the go. But the measured production suggests Samsung is testing the waters before committing to broader availability.
If you’re intrigued by the idea of a tablet-class display that folds down to phone size, the Galaxy Z TriFold could be one of the year’s most interesting devices. Just be ready to act fast if you want one—at least at launch, it sounds like supply will be scarce.
