Samsung Discontinues DeX for PC on Windows with Release of One UI 7

Samsung’s One UI 7 is set to usher in a host of exciting new features like a smart notification center, a fresh lock screen design, and updated icons. However, this Android 15-based update for Galaxy smartphones will also mark the farewell of the DeX for PC feature on Windows.

For those who got accustomed to Samsung DeX on Windows, it was an ingenious tool that allowed users to connect their Galaxy phones to a PC. With just a click, it opened a dedicated window, making file transfers smooth and intuitive. With the new update, official support for this handy feature will be phased out.

Samsung’s official DeX page reveals this change and suggests users pivot to the Link to Windows feature instead. This alternative offers similar convenience, enabling smooth access to your phone’s files and seamless transfers between devices.

Fortunately, Samsung has made transitioning easier with a detailed guide on how to use Link to Windows with a Galaxy phone. It’s important to understand, though, that only DeX for PC on Windows is being discontinued. The stand-alone DeX feature, which transforms compatible Galaxy phones into a desktop-like experience when connected to a monitor or display, will continue to be supported in One UI 7.

On another note, One UI 7 will also remove the ability to download third-party edge panels, as confirmed by Samsung. For those excited about the update, the stable version is expected to hit compatible devices following the debut of the Galaxy S25 series, while a public beta is anticipated in December.

Stay tuned for these developments and prepare for a new chapter with Samsung’s One UI 7!
