Samsung is reportedly focusing on introducing advanced health-tracking features across its product range, which include the Galaxy Watch, Galaxy Buds, and the new entrant, the Galaxy Ring.
This new piece of wearable technology, the Galaxy Ring, is intended to provide a more subtle approach to health monitoring compared to the larger smartwatches, allowing consumers a choice in how they wish to track their health data. The company’s product manager emphasizes that while the ring supplements health tracking, it is not meant to replace smartwatches. Pricing for the new device has yet to be announced.
Apple, a leading competitor in the health-tracking market, is facing challenges with its SpO2 monitor due to patent disputes. Nevertheless, Apple intends to forge ahead with new health features in its Apple Watch Series 10, anticipated to include advanced high blood pressure detection that would operate without the need for calibration and not provide exact blood pressure values. Instead, the focus will lie on assessing the user’s cardiovascular risk.
Samsung appears to have comparable aspirations in the blood pressure monitoring space. The tech giant is looking to offer insights into the cardiovascular risks similar to Apple’s approach. This strategy will move beyond displaying standard systolic and diastolic values.
Furthermore, the Galaxy Buds series is expected to contribute significantly to Samsung’s health data arsenal. Future iterations of these earbuds will reportedly be capable of tracking important health metrics from the skull. This data, when combined with information collected from a user’s wrist, fingers, and surroundings, aims to give a more comprehensive analysis of an individual’s health.
Even augmented reality headsets, akin to Apple’s Vision Pro, are cited as potentially playing a role in health and wellness initiatives, with applications that might include aiding in meditation and mental well-being.
These initiatives by Samsung display a concerted effort to compete with Apple in the development of non-invasive health monitoring solutions and provide consumers with a range of options to maintain their well-being through technology.
