Samsung is stepping on the gas with one of its biggest memory expansion pushes in years, doubling down on high-bandwidth memory and next-generation DRAM as AI servers continue to surge. The company is now targeting full-scale operation of its Pyeongtaek Line 4 facility, commonly referred to as P4, by the end of 2026—an accelerated timeline that signals how urgently chipmakers are racing to secure capacity for AI-focused data centers.
The move centers on rising demand for HBM, the stacked “near-processor” memory that’s become essential for modern AI accelerators. As large language models and other compute-heavy AI workloads spread across cloud providers and enterprise infrastructure, the appetite for faster memory bandwidth and higher capacity is growing quickly. That shift is reshaping how memory manufacturers allocate their cleanroom space, equipment investments, and production schedules.
By fast-tracking P4, Samsung is positioning Pyeongtaek—already one of the world’s most important semiconductor manufacturing hubs—as a cornerstone of its advanced memory strategy. The goal is clear: increase output and readiness for the next wave of AI-driven hardware, where HBM and cutting-edge DRAM play a major role in performance, power efficiency, and total system throughput.
This accelerated ramp also highlights a broader industry reality: the AI server boom isn’t just about GPUs and specialized processors. Memory bandwidth can become the bottleneck just as easily, which is why HBM and advanced DRAM are increasingly viewed as “must-have” components for competitive AI systems. With P4 moving toward full operation by the end of 2026, Samsung is aiming to meet that demand head-on and strengthen its position in the fast-growing AI memory market.
