Elgato has unveiled its latest Facecam 4K webcam, a game-changer for those seeking high-quality video capture. Priced at $199.99, this webcam offers impressive 4K resolution at 60 frames per second and integrates a unique feature: swappable lens filters. This allows users to utilize any standard 49mm lens filter, enabling creative visual effects like diffusion for softer images or circular polarizing filters to eliminate glare.
Purchasers can snag a free CPL filter or a DSLR-style privacy cap through Elgato’s store. Additionally, users have the flexibility to incorporate third-party macro, black mist, or star filters to further personalize their video style.
Under the hood, the Facecam 4K uses Sony’s Starvis 2 CMOS sensor and an Elgato prime lens, featuring fixed focus and an f/4.0 aperture. While the Facecam Pro’s f/2.0 aperture excels in low-light conditions, this model still delivers sharp video and supports recording at 4K 60fps or 4K 30fps with HDR for enhanced color and contrast. Connectivity is seamless with USB-C, and the camera includes a quarter-inch thread for easy mounting, weighing in at 112 grams without additional accessories.
Elgato’s Camera Hub software offers manual controls over ISO, exposure, and shutter speed, along with digital pan, tilt, and zoom functions to optimize your webcam’s framing. Users can store settings directly on the camera, ensuring consistent quality without relying on the software. For those with Nvidia RTX graphics cards, an enhanced background blur option mimics the depth-of-field effect typical of DSLR cameras.
The Facecam 4K is also equipped to work with Elgato’s Prompter hardware, with a necessary backplate available separately. New Prompter buyers will find the Facecam 4K backplate included, marking a shift from the previous Facecam Pro offering.
Adding to its versatility, the webcam is compatible with the Nintendo Switch 2 once updated to firmware version 2.32 or later. Available at $199.99 in the US, £179.99 in the UK, and €199.99 across Europe, the Facecam 4K is a compelling option for those keen on professional-quality streaming or video conferencing.
