Radeon RX 7400 Released by AMD: Features 28 Compute Units, 8GB GDDR6, and a 55W Power Profile

After introducing the entry-level PRO W7400 GPU, AMD is now turning heads with its gaming variant, the Radeon RX 7400, featuring a similar set of specifications.

This new launch marks AMD’s foray into the gaming segment with the Radeon RX 7400, building on the RDNA 3 architecture. Like its predecessor, the PRO W7400, this GPU aims at budget-conscious gamers, offering the same core specifications. Recently spotted in a budget-friendly Dell enterprise desktop, the Radeon RX 7400 showcases an impressive 8 GB VRAM capacity.

AMD has officially laid out the Radeon RX 7400’s specs, revealing 8 GB of GDDR6 VRAM. Although this memory operates slower than that of its RX 7000 series counterparts, it still holds a steady 10.8 Gbps speed, resulting in a 173 GB/s memory bandwidth. This bandwidth is about 40% less than the RX 7600, which features the same 8 GB / 128-bit memory configuration.

The RX 7400 is built upon the same NAVI 33 die as the RX 7600 but comes in a slightly scaled-down form, reducing the shader count to 1792. Despite being on the lower end, it still supports ray tracing, equipped with 56 Ray accelerators. However, it’s important to note that achieving playable frame rates with ray tracing enabled might be challenging as even its more powerful siblings sometimes struggle.

Designed with the entry-level user in mind, the Radeon RX 7400 sports a compact single-slot design, measuring just 167mm in length. Sharing this compact design with the PRO W7400, the RX 7400 requires no external power connectors, thanks to its modest 55W TBP. This makes it an ideal choice for pre-built systems, especially entry-level configurations, which is likely why Dell chose to incorporate it into their latest enterprise desktop model.

AMD has not yet confirmed availability for DIY enthusiasts, suggesting it might be an OEM-specific offering poised for imminent release.
