Players are sharing a notification aimed at PS4 owners who have Grand Theft Auto VI on their wishlist, with Sony essentially nudging them to upgrade to a PlayStation 5.
Even if you don’t own a compatible console, you can still wishlist the game on the PlayStation Store. That’s where the notification is showing up for some users, stating: “Get a PlayStation 5 today to be ready for when Grand Theft Auto VI launches on November 19, 2026.” For many, that specific date stands out, especially after months of speculation and ongoing concern about whether the blockbuster could slip again.
Of course, a store notification isn’t the same as an official, unbreakable promise. It doesn’t guarantee the industry will avoid another GTA 6 release date delay. Still, the message matters because upgrading from PS4 to PS5 isn’t a small decision for most players—particularly now, with the recent PlayStation 5 price increase making the jump more expensive. Anyone buying a PS5 mainly to be ready for Grand Theft Auto VI would be understandably frustrated if the schedule changes.
Adding to the sense that GTA 6 is central to the coming holiday season, Sony also referenced the game during its May 8 earnings call. While GTA 6 isn’t a PS5 exclusive, the platform landscape may still work in Sony’s favor. Reports suggest Xbox hardware production could be constrained due to memory-related supply pressures, which may make it harder for Microsoft to meet demand for new consoles. Meanwhile, a PC version is widely expected to arrive later, with many predicting 2027 at the earliest, and there’s still uncertainty around whether a version for Nintendo’s next system will materialize.
