PNY’s One-of-a-Kind Metal RTX 5070 Turns Aluminum Fans Into a Showpiece

PNY Shows Off a Striking RTX 5070 Metal Edition Graphics Card at Computex

PNY has once again used Computex to turn heads with an eye-catching graphics card concept. This year, the company brought out the GeForce RTX 5070 Metal Edition, a unique GPU design that stands out thanks to its all-metal styling and compact SLIM series-inspired form factor.

PNY has a history of displaying bold graphics card designs at major trade shows. Last year, the company presented its Iron Core GeForce RTX 50 series concept cards, including high-end models reaching up to the RTX 5090. Those cards featured large triple-fan coolers and a premium industrial look, but they never made it to retail shelves.

For Computex this year, PNY returned with another metal-focused design, but this time in a smaller and more practical-looking package. The RTX 5070 Metal Edition uses a dual-fan layout and follows the company’s SLIM series design language. While the card is described as slimmer overall, its shape is still wider and taller than a typical compact GPU, allowing PNY to reduce space in one area while keeping enough room for cooling hardware.

The most unusual part of the RTX 5070 Metal Edition is its fan design. Both fans are made entirely of metal, giving the card a premium, futuristic appearance. However, this is also the main reason the card is not expected to enter mass production. Metal fan blades can be extremely sharp, creating a safety concern for users who may accidentally touch them while handling or installing the graphics card. Even when the fans are not spinning, the edges could pose a risk to fingers and hands.

Because of that, the RTX 5070 Metal Edition is more of a showcase model than a product intended for everyday PC builders. It demonstrates what PNY can do from a design and engineering perspective, but it is unlikely to appear as a standard retail graphics card.

The good news for gamers and PC enthusiasts is that PNY’s SLIM series does exist in regular, non-metal versions. According to the company, production of the RTX 50 SLIM graphics cards is now moving into volume, with retail availability expected soon. These models are designed for users who want a modern GeForce RTX 50 series GPU in a more compact form factor.

PNY’s RTX 50 SLIM lineup could be especially appealing to gamers building smaller PCs or upgrading systems with limited internal space. Compact graphics cards are becoming increasingly important as more users move toward small form factor gaming rigs without wanting to sacrifice performance.

While the RTX 5070 Metal Edition may remain a one-off concept, it gives a glimpse at PNY’s experimental approach to GPU design. The card’s full-metal aesthetic is certainly impressive, even if it is not practical enough for mass-market release. For most buyers, the standard RTX 50 SLIM models will be the real products to watch, offering a cleaner balance of size, cooling, safety, and performance.
