The DJI Osmo Pocket 4 is getting plenty of attention for flashy upgrades like 4K/240fps slow-motion and a 14-stop dynamic range, but one of the biggest real-world improvements is easier to miss: battery life. Even though the built-in battery only jumps to 1,545 mAh from the Osmo Pocket 3’s 1,300 mAh, actual recording times show the Pocket 4 is far more efficient than its predecessor.
A side-by-side recording test by YouTuber MoutMedia puts the difference into clear perspective across common shooting settings.
In 1080p at 24fps, the Osmo Pocket 4 recorded for 4 hours and 0 minutes, while the Osmo Pocket 3 lasted 2 hours and 47 minutes. That’s an extra 73 minutes, or about a 44% improvement.
At 4K/30fps, where many creators spend most of their time filming, the Pocket 4 ran for 3 hours and 24 minutes compared to the Pocket 3’s 2 hours and 2 minutes. That’s a huge 82-minute gain, translating to a 67% longer recording time.
Even at the more demanding 4K/60fps setting, the newer model keeps its lead. The Osmo Pocket 4 reached 2 hours and 24 minutes, while the Pocket 3 hit 1 hour and 54 minutes. That’s a 30-minute advantage, or roughly 26% more endurance.
DJI’s own published figures also point to strong gains in lighter, everyday shooting conditions. In a controlled environment using 1080p/24fps, the Osmo Pocket 4 is rated for up to 4 hours of continuous recording—1 hour and 13 minutes longer than the Pocket 3’s 2 hours and 47 minutes.
Realistically, battery life will still depend on how you shoot. Factors like gimbal movement, screen brightness, and whether you’re using accessories such as the new magnetic fill light can all affect recording time. Still, these results make a compelling case that the Osmo Pocket 4 is much closer to a “full-day” compact camera for travel filming, vlogging, and event coverage—often without needing an extra battery handle (though it remains an option for anyone who needs maximum runtime).
Charging speeds, however, are essentially unchanged between generations. Using a 65W PD charger, both the Osmo Pocket 3 and Osmo Pocket 4 can reach about 80% in roughly 16 to 18 minutes, with a full charge taking around 32 minutes.
