OnePlus is preparing to launch a new smartphone in China, and it’s already being positioned as a serious gaming-focused device. The company has confirmed the name: OnePlus Ace 6 Ultra. But the bigger tease isn’t just about the phone itself—it’s about a new accessory that could turn the Ace 6 Ultra into something that looks and feels like an Android gaming handheld.
In recent teaser images shared on social media, OnePlus highlights what it calls “dream gear” designed to improve the gaming experience. While OnePlus hasn’t fully revealed the product yet, the visuals strongly suggest it’s a dedicated game controller built specifically to pair with the OnePlus Ace 6 Ultra.
One of the teaser images shows a controller outline placed over the phone, giving a clearer hint at the design. You can make out console-style triggers and shoulder buttons, plus two rear buttons that appear to be customizable. Those extra back buttons could be especially useful for competitive mobile games, letting players map important actions without taking their thumbs off the screen controls.
Details beyond that are still unclear. OnePlus hasn’t confirmed whether the controller will include features like advanced haptics, low-latency connection, pass-through charging, a headphone jack, or special software integration. Even so, a first-party controller could still be a big deal if OnePlus builds unique features into the experience—especially if it’s tuned to work seamlessly with the Ace 6 Ultra’s gaming optimizations.
Phone controllers aren’t new, and the market already offers plenty of options from both major brands and third-party accessory makers. Still, OnePlus entering the space could be a smart move if it wants the Ace 6 Ultra to stand out in the increasingly crowded “gaming smartphone” category. A custom controller bundled with, or built around, a specific phone can often deliver a more stable fit, better button mapping, and tighter performance than generic controllers.
Interestingly, there have also been rumors that OnePlus is working on a dedicated gaming handheld. With this teaser now pointing toward a phone-and-controller setup, it raises a real possibility: the “handheld” people have been hearing about might not be a separate console-style device at all. Instead, it could simply be the OnePlus Ace 6 Ultra paired with a proprietary controller to create a handheld-style gaming system.
For now, OnePlus is keeping the full reveal under wraps. But if the Ace 6 Ultra launches alongside this controller accessory, it could appeal to mobile gamers who want a more console-like grip, physical triggers, and extra programmable buttons—without giving up the flexibility of a smartphone.
