Nitecore P27iX Ignites the Night: 5,000 Lumens and a 470-Yard Beam in a Pocket-Friendly EDC Flashlight

Nitecore has officially introduced the P27iX, a new everyday carry (EDC) style flashlight built for users who want extreme brightness, quick controls, and the flexibility of a replaceable battery. After being shown alongside the smaller P17iX at the IWA show in Germany, the P27iX is now the first of the two to reach the market.

What makes the Nitecore P27iX stand out immediately is its high output. It’s rated for up to 5,000 lumens with a claimed beam distance of 470 yards, putting it firmly in the “serious power” category for an EDC-ready light. Despite that output, the design aims to keep operation simple and fast, with two different control areas depending on how you like to use a flashlight.

Near the head, there’s a main button for regular operation. An LED indicator sits nearby to show battery capacity and the currently selected brightness level, which is helpful when you’re switching modes in the dark or trying to manage runtime. At the tail end, Nitecore adds a second set of controls: two dedicated rear switches designed for instant access.

Those rear buttons are built for quick activation of the highest floodlight and spotlight modes, so you can jump straight to maximum output without cycling through settings. Because lights at this power level can heat up quickly, a lock switch is included to prevent accidental activation in a pocket or bag.

In terms of functionality, the P27iX follows a similar “fast access” concept to Nitecore’s EDC-style approach, but it introduces special high-output modes that are intended for short bursts. Nitecore refers to these as Search and Lumin-Shield. They’re available briefly until the flashlight head becomes too hot, after which the output automatically dims to manage heat.

For continuous use, the standard modes are designed to run longer and more consistently. Nitecore states the P27iX can operate for at least 2 hours and 30 minutes in these regular modes, whether you’re using floodlight, spotlight, or a combination. If you drop to the lowest setting, runtime stretches significantly, with a claimed maximum of up to 100 hours.

One of the biggest differences between the P27iX and many EDC-style high-output flashlights is the battery setup. The P27iX uses a replaceable 21700 battery with a capacity of around 20Wh, giving you the option to carry spares and swap them in the field rather than relying only on built-in charging. For convenience, it also includes USB-C charging directly on the flashlight, with the port protected by a metal cover.

Durability is also a key part of the package. The Nitecore P27iX carries an IP68 rating, meaning it’s built to handle dust and water exposure for demanding everyday carry use and outdoor conditions. Physically, it measures about 5.6 inches long and weighs around 4.4 ounces, balancing pocketability with the size needed for thermal control and performance.

The Nitecore P27iX is currently listed for $159 through the brand’s official online store. For anyone searching for a high-lumen EDC flashlight with a replaceable 21700 battery, USB-C charging, instant-access tail switches, and an IP68-rated build, the P27iX is positioned as a powerful new option in Nitecore’s lineup.
