Annihilated

Annihilated Arrives This July: A Twisted Japanese Roguelike RPG Unleashed

Flashlight Games and developer Desu Kumiai have locked in the release date for Annihilated, a darkly charming roguelike RPG built around a brutal choice: you can only save one survivor from a shattered hero’s party.

Annihilated launches worldwide on July 22 for Windows PC via Steam, arriving this summer with a story-heavy structure, replay-driven progression, and multiple paths to uncover.

The premise is simple, but twisted in the best way. The Hero’s party has been wiped out, and the only hope left is to pick a single character to carry forward. The catch is that every option is “broken” in a different way:
– The Hero, who has lost the power of speech
– The Mage, who has lost the gift of magic
– The Warrior, who has lost a mighty body
– The Priest, who has lost something unspeakable

From there, Annihilated leans hard into character-focused storytelling. It’s a narrative-driven RPG with four distinct routes, encouraging you to commit to one damaged companion, follow their storyline, and live with the consequences of leaving the others behind. Choices matter throughout, and your decisions steer you toward multiple endings, giving the game strong replay value for players who want to see every outcome.

Visually, the game sells a striking contrast: cute, adorable art that clashes with unsettling horror effects. That tension is part of its identity—the sweeter the surface looks, the darker the spiral underneath.

Combat is built around timing-based, turn-based card battles where reflexes can matter as much as strategy. You’ll be managing limited resources, looking for the perfect moment to act, and surviving scenarios that don’t pull punches. The dungeon crawling is roguelite-flavored with high lethality and instant retries, backed by unforgiving random events designed to keep each run tense and unpredictable. There are also high-risk mechanics like shattering your weapon to deal extra damage, plus a “Curse” system that lets you bend fate and rewrite your destiny when things go sideways.

With four routes, meaningful decisions, multiple endings, and a script totaling more than 200,000 words, Annihilated is positioning itself as a story-rich roguelike RPG for players who like their adventures equal parts adorable, horrifying, and emotionally messy—right up until the moment you’re forced to choose who deserves saving most.
