Nitecore P17iX Launches as a Smaller, Lighter 5,000-Lumen EDC Flashlight
Nitecore has officially introduced the P17iX, a more compact alternative to the P27iX that keeps many of the same core features while shrinking the lamp head and lowering the price. The new everyday-carry flashlight is already available in select markets, with pricing around $129, making it roughly $30 cheaper than the larger model.
The P17iX is designed for users who want high output, rugged construction, and flexible controls in a more portable package. Visually, it closely resembles the P27iX, and the overall button layout remains familiar. That includes the configurable control system and the protective slide switch used to lock the flashlight and prevent accidental activation during transport.
Power comes from a replaceable 21700 battery, such as the Nitecore NL2155HPi. Charging is handled directly through the flashlight’s protected USB-C port, which makes it convenient for everyday use, travel, work, or emergency kits. For added flexibility, the P17iX can also run on CR123 cells, giving users another power option when rechargeable batteries are not available.
Although the P17iX and P27iX are both rated at up to 5,000 lumens, the beam performance is not identical. The smaller head on the P17iX results in a shorter throw distance, with a maximum range of 1,083 feet. By comparison, the larger version reaches about 328 feet farther. For many users, however, the P17iX should still provide more than enough range for outdoor use, security work, camping, roadside emergencies, and general EDC needs.
The flashlight includes both floodlight and spotlight functions, allowing users to choose between wide-area illumination and a more focused beam. High-output modes can be activated briefly, while sustained constant-on modes are also available for longer use. Like many powerful compact flashlights, brightness may be limited over time to manage heat.
One of the main advantages of the smaller design is reduced weight. According to Nitecore, the P17iX weighs 3.6 oz including the battery, making it about 0.8 oz lighter than the larger model. That difference may sound small, but it can matter for users who carry a flashlight daily on a belt, in a bag, or as part of a lightweight outdoor setup.
Battery life is another strong point. In the lowest 15-lumen mode, the P17iX can run for around 100 hours, making it useful for extended low-light tasks or emergency situations. In turbo mode at 1,500 lumens, the flashlight is rated for at least 3 hours of runtime, which is half an hour longer than its larger sibling in the same mode.
Durability is also a major part of the P17iX’s appeal. The flashlight carries an IP68 rating, meaning it is built to resist dust and water. Nitecore says it can withstand brief immersion down to 6.6 feet and survive drops from up to 6.6 feet, making it suitable for demanding environments and rough everyday use.
With its 5,000-lumen peak output, USB-C charging, replaceable battery, rugged IP68-rated body, and more compact design, the Nitecore P17iX looks like a strong option for buyers who want a powerful tactical-style EDC flashlight without stepping up to the larger and more expensive P27iX.
