Nintendo Direct set for September 12 with a 60-minute showcase focused on Switch 2 and Switch games
Nintendo has officially locked in its next big presentation for September 12, 2025, at 6 AM PT / 9 AM ET. The company says the stream will run for roughly 60 minutes and spotlight upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch titles, making it the longest Direct outside of a console reveal. Most Directs typically land in the 40–45 minute range, with the previous length record set back in February 2021.
Nintendo hasn’t revealed the full lineup, but the timing is noteworthy. September 12 marks the 40th anniversary of Super Mario Bros., a milestone that practically invites celebratory announcements or special releases tied to the iconic series.
There’s also a growing stack of first-party Switch 2 projects without firm dates that could finally get updates. Fans are watching closely for news on Metroid Prime 4, Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment, and Splatoon Raiders. Looking further ahead, Nintendo has yet to outline its first-party plans for Switch 2 in 2026, and this Direct could start filling in that calendar.
Third-party support for Switch 2 is shaping up to be a major talking point as well. Multiple Resident Evil entries are expected, including Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, the Resident Evil 2 and 3 remakes, Resident Evil Village, and the Resident Evil 4 remake. A selection of Xbox-published titles and additions from the Assassin’s Creed franchise are also on the radar. Reports suggest these ports will run natively on Switch 2 hardware.
Nintendo isn’t leaving the original Switch behind, either. Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream and Rhythm Heaven Groove are reportedly planned for 2026, signaling ongoing support for the current-generation system even as Switch 2 takes center stage.
This Direct follows last month’s Kirby-focused presentation, which zeroed in on Kirby Air Riders. That 45-minute deep dive covered modes and mechanics for the sequel to the 2003 GameCube classic and confirmed a November 20 launch on Nintendo Switch at a $70 price point.
With a rare hour-long runtime, a historic Mario anniversary, and a growing slate of first- and third-party games, this showcase looks poised to set the tone for the Switch 2 era while delivering fresh updates for current Switch owners.
