NEC has introduced its latest Android tablet in Japan, the Lavie Tab T12, a mid-range device built around a large display, long battery life, and stylus support. Launched on July 30, 2026, the tablet is aimed at users who want a spacious screen for streaming, browsing, note-taking, studying, and light productivity without moving into premium tablet pricing.
The NEC Lavie Tab T12 features a 12.1-inch LCD display with a sharp 2,560 x 1,600 resolution. The screen also supports a 90Hz refresh rate, making scrolling, animations, and everyday navigation feel smoother than standard 60Hz tablets. Brightness is another strong point, with 600 nits typical brightness and up to 800 nits peak brightness, which should make the tablet easier to use in bright indoor environments and some outdoor conditions.
Powering the tablet is the MediaTek Dimensity 6400 chipset. This octa-core processor is built on a 6nm process and is designed for efficient everyday performance. It should be capable of handling common tablet tasks such as web browsing, video playback, messaging, online classes, document editing, and casual gaming. The chip delivers an estimated AnTuTu V10 score of around 449,000 points, placing it firmly in the mid-range category.
The Lavie Tab T12 comes with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. For users who need more room for apps, videos, photos, and documents, NEC has included microSD card support for expandable storage. The tablet runs Android 16 out of the box, giving buyers access to the latest Android features, interface improvements, and app compatibility.
Battery life is one of the key highlights of the NEC Lavie Tab T12. It packs a large 10,200mAh battery, which NEC says can provide around 13 hours of web browsing on a single charge. That makes it suitable for students, remote workers, frequent travelers, or anyone who needs a tablet that can last through a full day of use.
For cameras, the tablet includes a 13MP rear camera and an 8MP front-facing camera. While tablets are not usually designed to replace dedicated cameras or smartphones, this setup should be enough for video calls, online meetings, scanning documents, and casual photography.
Connectivity options include Wi-Fi 5 and Bluetooth 5.2. The device is available in a Cloud Gray finish, measures just 6.3mm thick, and weighs about 530 grams. Despite its large screen and big battery, the slim design should make it comfortable enough to carry in a backpack or use around the home.
The Lavie Tab T12 also supports the NEC Digital Pen 3 stylus, which offers 4,096 levels of pressure sensitivity. This makes the tablet more appealing for handwritten notes, sketching, document markup, and creative work. However, the stylus is not included in the box and must be purchased separately.
In Japan, the NEC Lavie Tab T12 is priced at JPY 64,790, which is roughly $411. With its 12.1-inch 90Hz display, Dimensity 6400 processor, 10,200mAh battery, Android 16 software, expandable storage, and optional stylus support, the Lavie Tab T12 positions itself as a practical mid-range Android tablet for users who want a large screen and dependable battery life without paying flagship-level prices.
