NEC Lavie Tab T8 2026 launches as a compact Android 15 tablet with expandable 1TB storage
NEC has introduced the Lavie Tab T8 2026, a compact and budget-friendly Android tablet aimed at users who want an easy-to-carry device for streaming, reading, browsing, studying, and everyday apps. The tablet is set to go on sale in Japan on October 29, 2026, with Android 15 available out of the box.
The Lavie Tab T8 2026 features an 8.7-inch IPS LCD display with a 1,340 × 800 resolution and a 15:9 aspect ratio. While it is not positioned as a premium tablet, the screen size makes it a practical choice for users who prefer something larger than a smartphone but smaller and lighter than a full-size tablet. The display supports up to 10-point multi-touch input and reaches a claimed maximum brightness of 480 nits.
Powering the tablet is the MediaTek Helio G85 chipset. This processor includes eight CPU cores running at up to 2GHz, paired with Mali-G52 graphics. It is designed for everyday performance, including web browsing, video playback, social media, casual gaming, online learning, and basic productivity tasks.
NEC is offering the Lavie Tab T8 2026 with 4GB of LPDDR4X RAM and two storage options: 64GB and 128GB. One of its strongest features is microSD card support, allowing users to expand storage by up to 1TB. That makes the tablet more appealing for people who download videos, store documents, keep large photo libraries, or use many apps.
For entertainment, the tablet includes stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos support, which should improve the audio experience when watching movies, listening to music, or playing games. It also keeps a 3.5mm headphone jack, a useful feature for users who still prefer wired headphones.
The camera setup is simple but functional. The rear camera uses an 8MP sensor, while the front camera is a 2MP unit for video calls, online classes, and face recognition. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 5.3, USB-C, and facial unlocking.
The Lavie Tab T8 2026 is equipped with a 5,100mAh battery and supports charging at up to 20W when used with a compatible charger. The device measures 211 × 124.8 × 8.5mm and weighs about 320g, making it light enough to hold comfortably for long reading or streaming sessions.
NEC will sell the tablet in Lunar Gray. A compatible cover and keyboard will also be available separately, giving users the option to turn the small tablet into a more practical device for typing notes, emails, or documents.
In terms of competition, the Lavie Tab T8 2026 sits close to other compact Android tablets with similar hardware. The Lenovo Tab One offers a comparable 8.7-inch display, the same Helio G85 processor, 4GB of RAM, Android 15, and microSD expansion up to 1TB. The Xiaomi Redmi Pad SE 8.7 is another alternative, offering the same screen resolution but adding a 90Hz refresh rate and a larger 6,650mAh battery.
