Motorola Shakes Up the Premium Market with a High-End Phone at a Surprisingly Lower Price

Motorola has just launched a new high-end smartphone in China, and it’s priced far lower than many people would expect for its flagship-level specs. The new model is called the Moto X70 Air Pro, and it arrives with hardware that places it firmly in premium territory—while still undercutting what similar Motorola phones cost in other markets.

Ahead of launch, leaks hinted the Moto X70 Air Pro might use the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 5. Instead, Motorola went a step further and equipped it with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5, the same top-tier chipset found in the Motorola Signature. In fact, Motorola’s own details indicate the Moto X70 Air Pro is essentially identical to the Signature in most key areas, making this release especially interesting for buyers focused on performance-per-dollar.

Powering the phone is a 5,200 mAh battery paired with 90W wired fast charging, a combination designed to deliver both long endurance and quick top-ups. On the front, Motorola includes a 6.78-inch OLED display with a sharp 1.5K resolution and a smooth 120Hz refresh rate. For supported apps, the refresh rate can climb as high as 165Hz, which should appeal to users who prioritize fluid scrolling and responsive gaming.

Camera hardware is another major highlight. The Moto X70 Air Pro features four 50MP cameras in total, led by a Sony LYT-828 main sensor. Motorola pairs that sensor with an f/1.6 aperture and a large 1/1.28-inch sensor size, a setup that typically helps with better light capture and stronger image quality—especially in challenging lighting.

Pricing is where the Moto X70 Air Pro really stands out. The base configuration starts at CNY 3,999 (about $575) and includes 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. Higher configurations include 16GB of RAM with 512GB of storage for CNY 4,499 (about $646), or 16GB of RAM with 1TB of storage for CNY 4,999 (about $718). Compared to Motorola’s similarly specced global counterpart, the China pricing comes in dramatically lower—by around $600 based on current exchange rates—making the Moto X70 Air Pro one of the more aggressive flagship releases in its segment.

With a flagship Snapdragon processor, a large OLED high-refresh display, fast charging, and a 50MP Sony main camera, the Moto X70 Air Pro positions Motorola as a serious value player in the premium smartphone market—at least for buyers in China where this pricing is currently available.
