The Motorola Edge 2024, also known as Edge Gen 5, is making its debut in the US market, ready to take over from the 2023 model. The smartphone is powered by Snapdragon 7s Gen 2, which is the same chipset used in the high-ranking Edge 50 Fusion. Despite sharing the same processing platform, the two models do have their differences.
The standout feature of the Edge 2024 is its FHD+ 144Hz pOLED display, which measures 6.6 inches diagonally, a tad smaller than the Edge 50 Fusion’s 6.7 inches. Dimension-wise, the new model is slightly narrower and thicker than its predecessors, measuring at 159.63 x 71.99 x 8.09 mm.
Camera-wise, the Edge 2024 shares its rear camera setup with the Edge 50 Fusion, which allows for a “50MP OIS” branding on its vegan leather back. In terms of battery, the Edge 2024 steps up its game with a larger capacity compared to the previous model, also featuring a 68W TurboPower charging technology. However, the charging rates for both wired and wireless remain unchanged from the previous year.
One of the major highlights for this new model is the operating system—most notably, the Edge 2024 comes with Android 14 out of the box. Storage configurations stay the same with a sole option of 8GB RAM and 256GB internal storage, and the device will be available in a classic Eclipse Black color variant.
In terms of pricing, the Motorola Edge 2024 enters the market with a retail price that is reduced by $50 from its predecessor’s initial cost. The last model was launched at a price of $599.99, equivalent to an upgraded Edge+ 2023 available on the market, suggesting that the Edge 2024 offers value for money. Potential promotions could further reduce the price at launch, providing additional incentives for early adopters of this new Edge-series iteration.
The release of the Motorola Edge 2024, scheduled for June 20, 2024, is poised to stir the market once again with its competitive combination of cutting-edge technology and a slightly more accessible price point. Combining technology and practicality, the latest Edge aims to build on Motorola’s legacy of providing quality, high-performance smartphones that meet modern requirements.
